Wow!! To tell you the truth, this is one of my all time favorites! I am a cult movie fanatic. I was elated to find Clash of The Titans available for sale, I bought it instaneously! I counted the days until it arrived and I immediately popped it into my sponge bob DVD player to give it a whirl, I was taken back thirty years ago to the days when creating special effects was something people actually had to think hard about to create. I love this flick, especially when they release the Cracken!!! Timeless

Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines is the British version of The Magnificent Race but it's more like a ripoff. The film uses the real life 1910 event as the basis for the movie but there aren't any similarities beyond that. It's directed & co-written by Ken Annakin, I have yet to find a reason to recommend anything in his name.

The film has a large pool of stars but almost all of them are B-list entities. The story centers on Orvil Newton (Stuart Whitman),an American from the wild West, who enters the contest. Patricia Rawnsley (Sarah Miles) is the female lead & is the daughter of Lord Rawnsley (Robert Morley) who is the publisher of a newspaper & the one who offers 10,000 pounds to the winner of the London to Paris air race. Richard Mays (James Fox), a ... Read More

I remember seeing IT a long time ago-something about a tall metal statue stalking people. I remember it being uber creepy! And if The Shuttered Room was inspired by Lovecraft, then I'm all for it! I just adore H. P. Lovecraft! I can't wait to get this awsome collection! I haven't seen either film in its entirety, and my memory IS INDEED fuzzy and wuzzy, but I just know that I will treasure this exclusive double dose of horror from the sixties! That, my friends, is why I'm giving it 5 stars! So there!

DVD : I, Claudius
I belong to the generation that saw high-budget Roman period productions such as Ridley Scott's Gladiator, HBO's Rome, and even the Polish adaptation of Quo Vadis (highly recommended). Having also been brought up in the States and becoming something of a classicist during my later education, I had read Robert Graves' books I, Claudius and Claudius the God, and heard of the BBC miniseries and always meant to see it, though not expecting much due to the age of the series and low budget it required to be realized.

When the chance came I snagged up the DVD series, and was so taken by the marvelous acting, intricate yet engaging storyline, and historical accuracy (it is not 100% accurate, but it is more accurate than the likes of Gladiator or HBO's ROME), that I watched the entire ... Read More

This is a superb production! Richard Jordan's finest performance. Anthony Perkins is a remarkable Javert, managing to make him both reprehensible and sympathathic. Bravo!

I was impressed by the dual act of Chris Sarandon.

I took one star because the movie did not show much of the characters' passion!

Two men are in love with one woman. It would be hard for her to choose so one of them scarified himself for her happiness. The movie ends with her tears (Alice Krige) as she discovers his true feelings and the sacrifice he made.

It remains one of my favorite movies!

I own this UK import. The movie itself is region free and does indeed work on North American Blu-Ray players; however, the featurette "A Profile of Black Narcissus" is presented in standard-def PAL (on the same BR disc as the HD feature), and is not playable on most US BR machines.

So, if you are only interested in the main feature (which does like quite nice in HD) and don't mind being somewhat ripped off in the extra features department, go for it. It wouldn't surprise me to see Criterion eventually release a Region A Blu-Ray edition of this stateside, however.

I have watched this film multiple times over the years. It is a great piece of miltaria, and a fine example of Sir Richard's tremendous range as an actor of the old school. The details of a mixed BA/native contingent Battalion in the last days of the Empire are spot on. The frustration of a proper RSM doing his duty in the manner that has served his sovereign and country well for decades only to be stimied by politics can be appreciated by current and former NCOs of all nations. I simply adore this movie.

The Oscar-winning 1947 story of a group of 5 nuns establishing a school/hospital mission at an ancient remote Himalayan palace . . . a former harem. They are to serve the village in the valley far below. Remarkably, this was all shot in a London studio - not the windswept mountainside that the viewer seems to be looking at.

The nuns seem to all be having serious misgivings regarding their vocation, and the pull of their former lives. There is arising sexual tension (usually masterfully subtle) between the sisters and the king's male liaison. Beautiful Deborah Kerr somehow manages to pull off playing the role of a rather severe but compassionate, young and fast-rising Sister Superior, at all times decorous, yet frequently oozing sensuality. She is always in full habit, with just partial face ... Read More
