I purchased this movie because I thought it would be appropriate for my family movie night. Thankfully the kids were more interested in playing than movie watching as my sister and I had the opportunity to pre-screen. OH, MY...this movie is NOT FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!! I've never read the books, but the movie was totally inappropriate and should have been rated PG-13. This film is full of abuse...attempted murder of three children, physical abuse, and almost on the verge of sexual abuse as Jim Carey's character tries to marry the female CHILD. Regardless of what the marriage was supposed to be intended for in no way does it ever make sense for a nasty old man to marry a little girl. Just gross. My kids will not watch this movie and I dare to say I probably won't be able to tolerate ... Read More

was glad to have been able to rent this one. The story of Ned Kelley is a really good one and (IMO) Heath did an excellent job (as always) in the role. It was sad to see how Ned was treated...and just like Heath...was gone way too soon. I can't say this is my fave flick, but I'd recommend it - it's a good watch.

Ghost Ship is a fast-paced horror/haunting type movie. I thought everything about the movie was great except that it moved a little too fast at times, and it was over before I was ready for the end. I wish it had been a little longer and that a little more time had been taken to build tension during some of the scarier passages. That said, the acting was great; the visuals were incredibly convincing, even after watching the "making of" feature I had a hard time spotting where special effects had been pasted together to make the final image I was watching - seamless. Writing wise, they sort of rushed past some of the explanations as to what the various ghosts were trying to get the living people to do. Still, I love haunting movies and especially ones that occur at sea. This one captured that creepy, desperate, ... Read More

Steve Meyers has got some really awful luck. He is a retired attorney in Australia and he has decided to cash in all his money to live a happy peaceful life upon his boat. Unfortunately his boat is destroyed in a strong thunder storm. He figures, no problem I'll talk to my insurance fella and get this cleared up. If you ever had your insurance claim denied you will relate when he is told that it was an act of God. So he decides to sue God to recoup his losses. To sue God, you sue his trusty earthly servants, the only way that they can win the case is to prove that God doesn't exist? There is a very uncomfortable problem.

The movie does not make fun of the church or God. His real beef is with insurnace companies using God as a loophole. It's clever, and witty. Judy Davis is great as Anna, and Billy Connolly ... Read More

DVD : Darkness Falls [Region 2]
Whether this movie is any good or not depends on what you expect from it. There are a few moments you can find yourself startled, but not often enough. On the other hand, the screeching of Matilda (the evil Tooth Fairy) becomes pretty funny over the course of the movie. Overall it's not a movie I'd buy if I lost my copy.
