I am amazed that this film was dismissed when it came out and sort of got lost in the shuffle. I just watched it and could not move from opening shot to the end. What an amazing film! You don't know who is the bad guy (or bad girl). What you think you see isn't what you think it is at all. The CIA should use this film in training new recruits and seasoned ones as to what could happen in a worse case scenario. And believe me, someday something like this may just happen. Action scenes galore. Major actors and actresses weave in and out of the film and all are excellent. The writing is superb and relevant. The photography is astounding. It is supposed to be set in Spain and I can only assume it was shot there and not on a back lot somewhere. It is one of the best action films I have ... Read More

Dennis Quaid plays an English professor so pompous and self-contained that the unpleasant odor of mothballs must emanate off that tweed jacket he wears. Stuck. Stuck in a past when his wife died and he became a widower. Stuck in a career where he allows no growth for himself. Smart people.

His daughter, a pompous and bombastic smart person, is a brainiac headed to Stanford. Her uncle pretty much defines her as a robotic android. The uncle and adopted brother comes into the story early on. A n'e'r-do-well who enjoys muddling through life, he, too, is one of the "smart people." He uses his intelligence to become the an unintentional nudge for change for the daughter.

Then there's the son, now a student at the same college where his dad doggedly teaches. Dr. Wetherhold ... Read More

While I consider myself reasonably environmentally friendly, I never did pay much attention to all the political hulabaloo that surrounded this film. In fact, I never even bothered to see it until it came to DVD.

And I will happily say that this is a movie worth keeping around, assuming you are one of those people that love a good fluffy adventure every now and then. I know I do, and the wild special effects and insane plot twists are enough to keep me happy. Warning or not, it's fun, fairly mindless entertainment that just looks freaking cool.

I may be in the minority on this one, but this is my favorite Julie Roberts movie. Maybe it is my love of the South or my love of horses, but I find this movie to be funny and charming and pure southern family all rolled into one. Kyra Sedwick as Julie's sister is right on. They look so much alike that I am amazed that they are not sisters. Kyra has some of the best lines in the movie. I am also a big Gena Rowlands fan as well as Robert Duval. The girl that played the daughter is sweet and charming as well as the woman who played Julia's aunt. Sooo funny!!
Anyway that is it in a nutshell......great movie!

I've had this movie on VHS for years and decided I would like to have a DVD version. The movie is outstanding and will always be a classic. However, this DVD lacks in quality of packaging. They have recorded both sides of one DVD rather than making it a 2-DVD version. The case is the cheapest kind you can find. I saw this package in the Walmart 2/$10 bin one time and didn't buy it because it was so cheaply packaged. I would recommend the 2-DVD version sold by Amazon, even if it is more expensive.
