This is a Hollywood version of real events that took place during the Vicksburg Campaign in 1863. While there is a lot of Hollywood flair, the events of the raid and the impact on the fall of Vicksburg are well documented. All in all it is quite enjoyable and great for a rainy afternoon.

A Perfect Murder is a great suspense but I still feel like something's lacking from this cat and mouse game. Gwyneth Paltrow saves this film from sinking, she is fabulous, seductive, and connvincing as an unfaithful wife. Michael Douglas tends to over-act here and Viggo Mortensen is a nice piece of eye candy. I like this film but I wasn't jumping for joy, decide for yourself.

There's nothing wrong with "B" horror movies-I like some (The Unnamable, Pumpkin Head, etc etc), but this was not memorable. There were some scary scenes, but overall, it was 2 hours I'll never get back.

This movie has quite a bit of language, brief nudity and violence, so it is not for your little horse-crazy girl. Having said that, it is a great movie for older teen, and adult, that still loves horses and longs to compete in the upper levels of English riding. It follows Charlie(Melissa Gilbert), a girl who trains a cow horse to go to the 3-day Event in Kentuky. Lots of great riding scenes, both western and english, a side love story between Charlie and Matt, played by the same actor as Jake Ryan in 16 candles, Michael Schoeffling. I have been watching this movie since I was about 17, and I still love it today.

For every major noir film - an Out of the Past or Murder My Sweet - there are probably a dozen lesser known movies, films that (sometimes rightfully) are mostly forgotten nowadays. Classic Film Noir collects ten of these lesser known movies in a 3 DVD set.

Disc One has three movies: The Second Woman, Borderline and The Naked Kiss. The Second Woman is something of a whodunit, with Robert Young as an architect beleaguered by bad luck. Is someone out to kill him, or is it all a paranoid fantasy? Borderline has Claire Trevor and Fred MacMurray as two undercover operatives out to stop Raymond Burr; the twist is that neither knows the other is a cop. The Naked Kiss is an old Sam Fuller movie with a prostitute trying to start a new life and being distrusted by a local police captain. This final ... Read More

Teen Wolf II. Revenge of the Nerds II. Speed II. Dumb and Dumberer. Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. Rocky V. What do all these movies have in common with The Next Karate Kid? They're all sequels that should have never been made. The first indication that this movie was a bad idea is that Macchio passed on it.

Hilary Swank plays Julie-san, a girl bullied in her high school. She's got anger issues, family issues, and the team of tough-guy jocks called the Alpha Elite does not help the situation at all. Despite the unlikely scenario of a high school boy's club that practices martial arts and enforces discipline/rules throughout the school, the odds of them picking on a single girl are even more unlikely. The odds of a girl beating up the leader of that group gets into the preposterous ... Read More

Director Sam Fuller's Shock Corridor is one of those wildly aberrant works of art than can be called great, on some levels, and utter schlock, on other levels. And both are correct assessments of this film that can only be termed a didactic melodrama. What results, though, is that one is left with a so-so film- not the piece of pulp garbage that many reviewers first assailed the black and white film (with dream sequence snippets in color) as, upon its release in 1963, nor the masterpiece that revisionists have proffered in later auteur-based assessments. It had been almost a quarter century since I last watched the film, but recently popped in The Criterion Collection DVD of the film, and rediscovered its `charms.'
On the positive side, the cinematography by Stanley Cortez (who did The Magnificent Ambersons and Night Of The ... Read More

Maverick American filmmaker Sam Fuller was both a progressive and a prude, and no film of his better illustrates this schismic personal dichotomy, echoed in his art's use of high and low techniques, than his 1964 black and white film noir melodrama The Naked Kiss, a cult classic whose title derives from its lead character, a prostitute named Kelly, who describes the kiss of the fiancée she kills, that way, meaning she could tell he was a sexual deviant from the get go. It's a film that has brilliance, inanity, memorable scenes of realism, and trite predictable scenes of sheer fantasy- such as the mention of the titular act, which is not real, but works symbolically to explain certain elements of the lead character's behavior.
That lead character, a hooker named Kelly, is played by B film mainstay Constance Towers, whose decades of acting ... Read More
