Because I enjoy Christian Bale's work very much, I was anxious to see this film. It is admittedly violent and edgy, but if you focus on the nuances that make up an actor's craft, you will see this young man is extraordinarily talented. He worked very hard to get this role and is ideally cast in the film. I can also recommend 3:10 to Yuma if you can concentrate on his underplayed performance and ignore Russell Crowe and his gang. Bale was the believable character.
American Psycho is NOT for the immature viewer, but if you are interested in dissecting characterization and film performance, this is a most worthwhile addition to your collection! - Elisabeth Fuller, Windsor, VA

Right off - this is one of Giovanni Ribisi's best performances. It's compelling but we never really feel the heat of the Boiler Room. The Danger. The Action. Ben Affleck is extremely good but brief in this - one of his forgotten performances. Everything else about the movie has been said here. More sex, scandal and intrigue would've elevated this way above. EXTRAS: The "original ending" is actually a lot more artful and smarter than the one we get in the final cut. Overall, worth comparing to Wall Street? No. Worth watching? Yes.

"Mysterious Skin" was adapted for screenplay by director Gregg Araki from Scott Heim's novel. Araki's reputation for bold films continues with this tale. Araki was nominated for Best Director for the film by the Independent Spirit Awards. He won the same type of award from the Seattle International Film Festival (Golden Space Needle Award), from the Rotterdam International Film Festival (MovieZone Award), from the Bergen International Film Festival (Jury Award) and from the Brisbane International Film Festival (Interfaith Award). I found the theme of child abuse made this a very difficult film for me to watch. The performances and the film's final frames made it rewarding.

Two child actors do excellent jobs in the film. The wide-eyed George Webster who plays young Brian and Chase Ellison ... Read More

High Art, in my experience, was one of those movies that i would watch if i'd already flipped through the channels a few times and nothing else was on TV. If fairy tales aren't your thing and angsty confused ambitious movies are more you, then go for it!

Henry Hathaway's 'Niagara' captures the the feel of a really bad vacation. A vacation with someone who no longer loves; or particularly likes you, and is quite possibly whiling away the hours thinking of ways to kill you.

One can almost smell the mildew on the towels and the staleness of the ashtrays in the Motor Lodge where Rose Loomis (Marilyn Monroe) lounges in bed wearing red lipstick and not much else, while her battle-fatigued husband George (Joseph Cotten), wanders around Niagara Falls, looking for sharp rocks to smash his head on. George can't stand Rose, and he can't live without her. This renders him powerless to do much more than paint model cars, chain smoke and break vinyl records he suspects are love songs about the guys Rose is really fantasizing about. Going nowhere fast, the Loomis' have ... Read More

Since acquiring a Sony HD TV, I've been watching far too many bad movies for no better reason than the novelty of seeing images in high definition. But with fare this bad, and with HD channels comparatively few, I'm seriously considering returning to the old 20" GE--either that or order one of the pay services like BET Jazz.

This film is so sophomoric, from conception to script to realization, that either the filmmakers are cinematic ignoramuses or colossal cynics, serving up anything intelligible to the lowest forms of humanity. The writing, especially the dialog, is on the level of the most obvious sit-coms minus the laugh track--a regression by light years from any 30-minute Norman Lear production. There are even more close-ups than you're likely to see in a made-for-TV counterpart. About the only thing that distinguishes ... Read More

This movie is not so great. However, Matt LeBlanc is comes off as his usual likable, adorable self and so you're not cringing the whole way through.
