This really is an example of beautifully simplistic filmmaking. There are no real villians in this film, but there aren't any heroes either. What is so refreshing is that this movie is just about people. People that you know in your real life. Sometimes they are witty, stometimes they are wise and sometimes they do ridiculously stupid things because they don't know what else to do. These are the players in the film. It is set in a nondescript small town in New York and is pretty much about two siblings, whose parents died when they were very young, who are trying to pull themselves out of the rut that their lives are currently in. I thought this movie had interesting characters. It is a little on the dark side of human nature and a relationship between a father and daughter. The actors do a marvelous job in their portrayal of characters. The story line kept my interest throughout.

The leads are charismatic, Edward Hermann is good in everything he does. Most importantly, in addition to some decent character-driven comedy, physical and verbal, (remember the scene where Matheson is trying on the wedding rings?) this movie actually sketches out how you move forward from animal cravings to having a loving relationship. It's not particularly profound, and sure, it feels a LOT like a TV movie. It sure felt realistic to me, in this one way-- it really did feel like Matheson's character was trying to understand how to love somebody without thinking of himself as some sort of martyr to monogamy. And I did feel like Capshaw's character had some backbone, unlike other female leads in similar comedies.

One of the best films I've ever seen! Wonderful pictures, perfectly fitting music, great and inspiring camera and cutting, beautiful warm story and outstanding unbelievable good acting!!! It's realy a sin you can't get this DVD in Germany (where I live) and many other countries. So nobody knows this phantastic work... All that hollywood trash you can get, but... whatever...
