Great collection of old WB cartoons. I want the whole set! Chuck Jones was a genius. Lots of laughs and lots of memories.

Volume Four of the "Looney Tunes Golden Collection" is less than golden. A DVD set that wastes an entire disc on Speedy Gonzales - plus another on cats! - should be viewed with careful scrutiny. On the plus side, it's great having a disc devoted to the classic animation of Frank Tashlin. Unfortunately, the Bugs Bunny selections are a mixed bag, with "Operation: Rabbit" and the Oscar-winning "Knighty Knight Bugs" among the few highlights. Despite the generous amount of special features (including the 1975 "Bugs Bunny Superstar" documentary and three Private Snafu shorts), Volume Four lacks a well-rounded display of Warner Bros. cartoon madness.

Bette Davis is a goddess, or at least she was. We all know this and if you are not yet acquainted with her prestige line of film performances then I urge you to load up your Netflix queue this very instant. That said, `Jezebel' sports not only one of her finest (Oscar winning) performances but it also serves to be one of the greatest films she every lent her talent to. It was Warner Brothers answer to `Gone with the Wind' (or should I say their answer to Davis' longing for the role of Scarlett O'Hara) and to be completely honest I actually tend to feel that `Jezebel' is the better film.

Please, don't hate me.

The film takes play in the early 1850's in a Louisiana town where a young, headstrong woman shakes up the locals and brings dire consequences on those she loves ... Read More

A friend got this for me recently, and tested on my older Samsung multi-region DVD player, and Disc1 worked fine. An hour later, when I went to my home, tried watching Disc1 on my multi-region LG and the player keeps on showing up the "reading" message, until it tells me that there's "No Disc".

Disc2 works fine on both players though.

My copy also came without the tin box, though I have no idea if the new one comes with one, I'm guessing it does. So AM a little disappointed.

Without both issues from above, I would've given this collection a 4/5 because it contains some of the shorts I watched growing up. Though presented in decent state, I was hoping for a little better looking restore.

By the time of "Shall We Dance", the 7th outing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Rogers had become a star in her own right. The Gershwins wrote a great score which sustains the film but there is a sense of deja vu about the script and the supporting players which was reflected in the box office at the time. After the classy peak of "Swingtime", "Shall We Dance" was the inevitable anti-climax. Also, there is less dancing which might have been simply because of Roger's availability.

For me, the highlights are the orchestrations and "Slap that Bass" when Astaire lets loose in the engine room of a ship with a jazz band in support. "They all Laughed" is thrown away with the stars on roller skates which diminishes their artistry into simply athleticism. The gimmick wastes them.
