Hmmm, the Water Horse. I haven't watched a kid's movie in years, and I think this is one; however, it's handsomely done, the child actor believable and the Horse is energetic.

I prefer Selleck's newer westerns. Still the cast in this movie is a who's who for westerns. Ben Johnson stills the show. Glen Ford is as solid as ever. The "Sackett boys" make it look easy. This is now a classic movie from the master classic western writer.

The full-length interview with James Stewart provided as a commentary on Winchester 73 is worth the price. Buy it when you can get it for the low price. Each film is in it's own plastic case - a thin one - with all 6 in a box for easy storage.

The first time I saw this movie I was feeling a bit depressed...I'd been trying to buy a house for ages and everything kept coming up NO and it was just frustrating...so I had no expectations of being amused - I was just there with a couple of other friends and my daughter... Boy, did I laugh myself silly! So many of the situations were so incongruous - my favorite was the "mini marshmallows". I couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD...it seemed to take forever. I still can't understand why some people just don't see the humor in it! My daughter and I just laugh at the mention of the movie - and we look forward to watching it every year - I have to wait till she comes home from college this year - she begged me to wait!

I saw this movie for the first time more than a year ago. I've forgotten the storyline, the incidents, the details. But the sheer EXPERIENCE of watching the movie lingers in my heart. There are westerns that are grander (John Ford), more stylish (Sergio Leone), more sophisticated (Anthony Mann); but to me Shane is the most beautiful, the most affecting, the most luminous. It is among the most beautiful movies ever made. The longer time passes without me re-watching it, the greater it looms in my consciousness. I guess that's the mark of a true work of art; it takes root in some part of your soul, and grows over time. I hope the studio releases a better DVD transfer than the one we have here, whose image quality is less than optimal.

I put this in my top 25 greatest westerns. Lots of good actors. Lots of shoot em up. Vengeance is the driving force of the story. Good sub plots. Will be or is a western classic. I bought the box set of Sam Peckinpah's western. Was worth the price for 4 movies and free delivery.

You have to admit, it's a great premise. What would America look like and do if war was conducted on our own soil instead of across an ocean? But instead of going the conventional way of showing you anything and everything about it, director John Milius decided to give this depressing scenario a view from a bunch of high school kids. We don't even know the full extent of the attack until the middle of the movie. Interesting concept sure, but what looks good on paper almost never works when fully attempted. First off, with the exception of a young Charlie Sheen, the acting is bad... as in pathetic. Patrick Swayze is a guy you wouldn't expect this from, but he's one of the worst offenders.
