Costner and Duvall do a great acting job with this storyline and have a great supporting cast. If you have to even get it used, get it. It's a great 'modern day' made western of classic proportions.

This is a great, satirical, passionate, sensual, and disturbing movie. You will love the character development and find yourself on the side of different characters as time goes on. The characters are so diverse and dissimilar from one another that it is realistic, in that they are not cookie-cutters of one another. Complexity of characters is what really makes this movie. Kevin Spacey and Annette Benning give performances that are so convincing that you feel like you've just witnessed the true American family; a family that is not the warm and fuzzy - but the real family that shows the ugliness and anger that really goes on within the facade.

Yeah, I get that Tim Burton's star studded MARS ATTACKS! is a spoof of 1950's sci-fi movies but I still don't find this to be a very amusing film. And I know it is all comic book violence/black comedy but there is still way too high of a body count (both Martian and Earthling) for me. Do I personally find it amusing when a trailer dwelling Kansas couple watches their soldier son get vaporized on live television? Er No. Or when a group of Cub Scouts are crushed by the Washington Monument? No again. I even have to say no to the enjoyment value of members of Congress being assassinated with ray guns while the president is killed in a manner reminiscent of the chest bursting scene in ALIEN. The ending is taken from "White Heat" starring James Cagney playing gangster Cody Jarrett. As he falls, back-first, from atop the chemical storage tank, the camera tracks Jarrett's plunge into the hellish flames below. Jarrett's last words are: "Top of the world!" As Richard falls to his death in the flames below, the soundtrack plays a song begins with the words: "I'm sitting on the top of the world, just rolling along, just rolling along...." It couldn't just be mere coincidence.

Both "Valmont" and "Dangerous Liasons" are fabulous films. I personally prefer "Valmont". The casting for this film is fantastic. Colin Firth makes a much more charming and handsome `Valmont' who knows how to use the 'art of seduction' to his advantage. Annette Benning is a scheming and beautiful `de Merteuil'. The mood of this film is more feel-good, it contains more playful humour and the imagery (especially in the outdoors) is amazing. With `Dangerous Liasons'; the characters (played by Glenn Close and John Malkovich) were more sinister and less likeable (I guess it depends what mood you're in). Overall: Highly recommended.

I bought this DVD of both films because I enjoyed the drama, trials and consquences in them, and I'm glad that they got together in this DVD so I can continue watching them one at a time and enjoy even more! I'm also glad capitions and subtitles are permitted in it since I'm a Deaf person!
