This production is a beautiful show to watch. The cast is exciting, but so little French. So, if you do not pay too much attention to the pronunciation, then you will enjoy the creamy and lyric voice of Ms Netrebko, who portrays a strong Manon, dedicated to pleasure (see L'hotel de Transylvanie act). Villazon is, as always, very (some would say too much) involved in his character, but his voice was, at that time (2006), still responding (though he is asking too much). However, Faisons un reve is sung with beautiful pianissimi. Barenboim is not to be mentionnned as the sound of the orchestra is international and not Massenet. Generally speaking, a overall good production, but French is not the best quality of Ms Netrebko.

This concert is amazing! Placido Domingo, at 65 at that time, is, like always, at his best. Even with a baritone tone he still out shines younger singers. But in this concert both Anna and Rolando are just wonderful. They sing with much passion and their voices are fresh and clear. The choice of the music is perfect for a night like that. The set is enchanting. I first saw this concert on the TV and I instantly fell in love with it. I was so happy when I found it on DVD. Rolano Villazon had a smashing success with Rossini's La Danza. Do not hesitate to buy this DVD. It is worth every dollar. The four singers really stand out, Netrebko with her angel-like voice, Vargas with a wonderful tenor voice, Garanca as a colorful mezzo and Tezier as a brilliant baritone. Each and every aria are outstandingly sung and when the four of them join to sing both an aria from Rigoletto and from Traviata their voices blend wonderfully. Astounding audience reception of Villazon's virtuosity! Netrebko was great! Characters were most believable and voices simply grand. A lot of fun to watch!

I'm super bias on this make of La Traviata. It's the modern world of opera; besides, it's my favorite opera. I've seen the stage La Traviata over 15 times in 7 different states, and no matter where I see it, I just can't get enough. Anna and Rolando are just extraordinary. Who needs props when you have two of the greatest performers, and their voices can't be compared to any other in this world. If you like modern and are willing to take a chance on a totally different presentation of opera, I would highly recommend this DVD. LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!!!! The BEST!!!

What a difference blu-ray makes! If there was ever a production of an opera to want in stunning high defintion, it may be this one, and DG does not disappoint. The colors leap off the screen and the beautiful cast, costumes and scenery are just a feast to behold. The DTS-HD track is very good for the most part, occasionally the singers feel too close and there are occasional balance issues, but it is excellent for the most part. There has been a lot written about this production. I saw it in LA a few years ago and was blown away then. I'm very grateful to see it here on BD/DVD, but I feel there's something missing. As amazing as Netrebko and Villazon are, there is something missing from their relationship here in this production. I feel like the McVicar production (also with Rolando) ... Read More

I loved this film, and enjoyed it very much. Netrebko is a most excellent Elvira, and the rest of the cast completely lived up to her. Recommend this DVD highly for anyone who loves opera on film.

It is like being there, time and again. The images are incredible crisp and bright and the sound is wonderful. Three of the greatest voices of today perform well selected areas of operas and popular songs. You will enjoy every minute of it. Bluray technology really proves itself. I strongly recommend this DVD to watch and listen alone (and may be sing with your favorites singers) or with your friends and family and have a great time. Just like being there.
