These are marvelous performances of Mozart's golden dances. Written late in his career, they are mature, warm, convivial expressions of Mozart's genuine fondness for people and social gatherings. Thoroughly saturated with Mozart's exquisite gift for melody, radiantly elegant and brimming with grace and charm, this Naxos issue of the German Dances is hard to resist. Listening to this beautiful dance music, you can imagine a candlelit ballroom filled with lovely ladies and gentlemen, the punch flowing freely - a genuinely festive occasion graced by Mozart's glittering genius.

These are unmistakably magical Mozartean tunes, joyous yet refined, delicious, heartfelt, and of course, absolutely beautiful, warmly executed with the perfect amount of geniality by the talented members ... Read More

Well played by professor Allen, wonderful music.
I think that this is what is to be expected from
Maestro Rodrigo. First pieces on the first disc
sound sound a bit in the vein of Debussy, this
was so maybe because it was the style of the day,
but it may well also reflect the composer's time
in Paris, where he studied with Paul Dukas, and
was friend with the mexican composer, Manuel Ponce.
All the music in the disc is well played by professor
Allen along with music for piano 4 hands, where professor
Allen is accompanied by Anton Nel. Wonderful recording,
indeed a five stars!!!!!

The pieces are excellent, the playing is excellent, and the recordings are excellent. Whether it's rock and roll, classical, jazz, or any type of music, I always find some of my favorite works in a composer's "B-side" stuff, items that aren't always the best known pieces in their repetoire. Jeno Jando and Naxos deliver exactly that here. I also have the "Beethoven: Bagatelles," also performed by Jando. Neither are to be missed.

Vlado Perlemuter was taught by Moritz Moszkowski before he was admitted to Cortot's class at the Paris Conservatoire. Gabriel Faure was its director at this time. Perlemuter had the privilege of meeting and studying Maurice Ravel's entire piano works with him. Ravel was present when Perlemuter, one of the first, performed them all in two recitals. Being totally and personally involved with Cortot, considered a leading authority of Chopin's music and with Ravel, one of the world's foremost composers of French music, launched Perlemuter into a career as an internationally distinguished, all- encompassing concert pianist and professor. This brings us to his wondrous and breathtaking performances of Chopin's piano works. In the nocturnes one feels that in them Perlemuter was less concerned with pianistic considerations, ... Classical Music : Dvorak: Slavonic Dances Opp 46 & 72 / Kubelik, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra
Rafael Kubelik was born to conduct Dvorak. He knew and understood Dvorak better than anyone. I don't mean this in a dry academic sense: Dvorak's music run through Kubelik's veins, and, through his long years as Conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, he patiently built a precious gift to mankind: the best performances of Dvorak's music. If you're looking for a recodring of Dvorak's beautiful "Slavonic Dances", you should seek no further.

Classical Music : Enrique Granados: Goyescas / Allegro de Concierto / Danza Lenta / El Pelele - Alicia de Larrocha
The name of Enrique Granados will always be associated with to that tragic episode that defined his life in 1916.

But his musical bequeath will always be estimated by the rest of the world who will be able to enjoy the delirious, captivating and engaging inspiration produced by Goyescas, a heartfelt homage to Francisco de Goya, one of the most prominent and genuine Ambassadors of the Spanish painting.

IN this sense, this suite for piano is frame by frame a sumptuous and posthumous tribute, keeping into account the repressed lyricism of the Spanish lyric.

Pitifully, there have not been so many successful recordings that may be regarded as memorable, because somehow elude the elusive gaze, the historical perspective and the Mediterranean poetry nestled bellow the score.

This is a delightful excursion into early-American "kitsch," and these recordings, despite having been around for half a century, have held up remarkably well. If you like to hear music which makes no demands on you, these largely piano pieces are tuneful and charming, even if superficial.

Although not noted here, this is a TWO-DISC set (the second CD - called Vol.2) is selling by itself here at Amazon for more than twice the cost! so this represents great value besides.
