I regard this version as superior to the one with Ciofi because Dessay is in fact a better singer than Ciofi. Florez needs no introduction since he is the reigning light lyric tenor today. Some complain that his voice has a "nasal" quality but in fact that is simply one of its unique identifying features. Most very great singers had uncommon voices, perhaps even ones with a few "defects", that served to make them unique. Callas for example, and Melchior. There are lots of voices with nothing distinctive about them, but Florez is not in that group, fortunately. No praise is too high for his art or his unique vocal instrument.

The Schoenberg concerto really supprises me. It is one of the most difficult concerto's to play, but Hillary Hahn plays it effortless, with a clear interpretation and with great musicality. To my opinion the Schoenberg concerto is one of her best performances so far. The performance of Sibelius is again technically excellent, but sounds sometimes a bit less on fire.

This album consists mostly of so-called 'poems' for cello solo. It is an interesting experience, although less lush in texture than the usual symphonic works by Glass, and less moving than solo efforts such as the solo saxophone album. The album ends with several tracks (some of which not released on CD hitherto) from Powaqqatsi. All in all, this is a valuable item in a Philip Glass's afficionado's collection, but will probably be of little use to other people.

We purchased several more of the Baby Einstein videos bases on my daughters appreciation of this one. However, so far none of come close to Baby Mozart. My daughter has been engaged by the great combination of classical music and engaging images from 3 months to 9 months. I anticipate we will get a few more months out of it as well.

Mike Oldfield fans will readily recognize Tubular Bells side one in this classical music style composition. This is not, however, the orchestral version of Tubular Bells which we have already heard. It is a variation on the theme blending classical music with the modern guitar and the variety of instuments Mike Oldfield is known for. Fans of classical music will find something new and interesting here. Fans of Mike Oldfield will enjoy hearing Mike Oldfiled with a variation on the familiar theme in a new genre. Mike Oldfield says in his liner notes that he believes that this is the music that moves the spheres of the universe. I believe he is sincere as listeners will hear the familar haunting theme that runs through almost all of his music.

The Tenor from Peru is one of the best tenors in the world at this time;I feel that the selection of arias, could have been a lot better.I do recommend that when you see the name Juan Diego Flores, you pay a lot of attention.
