For those of you who like or, as I do, love Baroque music it doesn't get better than this. If you have not gotten past the three giants of Baroque---Bach, Handel and Vivaldi---it is time you discovered the magic of the most prolific of them all---Telemann. I have a great deal of Telemann's music, up until now only vocal music, many cantatas and a couple of delightful operas. Now I am into Telemann's instrumental music and have acquired quite a few CDs. I think his Tafelmusik is the best. But truly I don't think he ever wrote a bad note. Everything he wrote has a certain spirit, a joie de vivre. This set is ridiculously cheap and I heartily recommend it.

This is a wonderful collection of all of Corelli's chamber music. I already owned most of it, but the warmth and richness of these recordings make this group easy to listen to. This is excellent value for your money. It is a quick way to gather together all of his recordings. The performers are excellent and play in many internationally known orchestras and smaller ensembles. There are times when I wish the tempo was a little faster but these are enjoyable nonetheless. You may also want to try his violin sonatas, op5 by the Locatelli trio. The Purcell Quartet is also excellent.

I believe this Deutsche Harmonia Mundi 50th set is BETTER than the Harmonia Mundi France edition. Why you ask? First of all, I think it is safe to say that over the years, Harmonia Mundi has always been far more valuable as a label for its recordings of music pre-1650. This Deutsche set reflects that. The HM France set is more of a chronological catalogue of all "classical" music. Secondly (and completely subjectively), I prefer Baroque and Early Music, which this set is chock full of. Honestly, I haven't even really listen to much of the HM France edition which is weighed down by (in my opinion) too many unnecessary and boring recordings by the likes of Janacek, De Falla, Schumann, Chausson, Copland, et al. This is a great CD to have playing -quietly- as one climbs into bed with a good book. I guarantee you will be asleep within 20 minutes. So the downside is, one never gets to hear the complete CD! Try to listen to the whole thing on a Saturday morning while bashing about the house. Fabulous music.

I really like the classical music on all but the delta cd. This one is supposed to be for sleep but I find it sinister and annoying, but the rest of the cds are good.

He was a friend of Bach's & was Bach's 2nd son's godfather. This CD contains many of Telemann's best & most famous works. I have other versions on CD's, esp. the Suite in A-moll (minor), Viola Concerto in G major, Trumpet Concerto in D major, & table music. This is a CD that you can loose yourself in. The Adagio in G Minor is haunting and melancholy and beautiful. All 19 tracks are fluid and wonderful.

This was my first CD of music produced by Albinoni, and I was quite pleased. I first discovered Albinoni while listening to my local classical station. After hearing a fantastic Baroque piece, I jotted down the name of the composer and looked him up later. Albinoni's music is wonderful, especially if you are a fan of the classic Baroque style (as I am). This CD contains a superb collection of oboe concerti which rival any oboe pieces I have ever heard. Wonderful in your car, at the office, or just relaxing at home with a good book. Very nice collection!

Both Amazon and Brilliant Classics' own site neglect to specify the contents. Most instrumental works are here (except keyboard suites) but of over 20 English oratorios, the crown of Handel's work, only 3 (Messiah, Jephtha, and Belshazzar - the last sung in German!)and of 44 Italian operas only 3 (Imeneo, Faramondo, and Rinaldo). More than half the CDs have less than 60 minutes of music, and there are no texts for the 25 CDs of vocal music. Performers, mostly obscure, are identified by name only, no background information. Final six CDs are the Complete Chamber Music, available in a separate box set from Brilliant.
