this is the first in the new series from C Harris. I have to say I didn't really like this one. I had it figured out half way through the book. But I did order all 3 in the series and enjoyed the second one very much. I fell that the characters and premise for this series is brilliant, just needs to keep within the Harris style of wit and sexual innuendo. I just started the third - Ice Cold Grave- and I'm moving right along with it. I believe I will like this one also. Keep um coming, Charlene!

After a disappointing third outing, I was reluctant to pick up Butcher's 4th installment, but after letting it gather dust for 8 months I finally bit the bullet and started reading. I kept on reading, and found it hard to put Summer Knight down. Harry Dresden's character was spot-on, back to the hard-boiled gumshoe I knew from the first two books in the series. The plot is sprawling, but the pacing is taut. There's lots of humor, magic, and plot twists and far less phiolosophizing. Bring on the next book!

Butch and Marissa have no chemistry. The continuation of the storyline was fantastic except Butch and Marissa. I really wanted Butch to explore his feelings for V and Marissa to hook-up with Rhev. Marissa seems too frail to handle the Brotherhood and offers no real support to Butch. He is always comforting and reassuring her when she should be able to offer him strength. I picked up the third volume of the Mercy Thompson series in the library and loved it. I picked up another of her books through Amazon and realized that I loved that book too. So I bought all three of the books in this series so I could own them and read the series from the beginning. I expected the first two books to be less well written than the third one, but I was wrong. All of the books in this series, and the related Alpha and Omega series are very well crafted. And reading the series from the beginning made a lot of things that I had not quite understood in my first reading of the third book a lot clearer. This is really a review of the series as a whole. I will refrain from comments on the story itself. I will say this however, Butcher keeps you occupied and reading. I am not much of a book reader, but I listened to the 10th book in the series, and then came back through the series reading. It took me about a week a book here in Afghanistan, considering work load and my inability to read fast this is pretty amazing. Things don't usually keep my attention, but Butcher draws you into the characters not just Dreseden, but everyone. Great series great books.

I discovered this series through Amazon's "recommended reads". I found my mind wandering in maybe the first third of the book. It then became extremely entertaining. I liked it enough to order the 2nd and 3rd books in the series before I got to the end of the book --- so I could start reading them immediately upon finishing this one.

Spoilers aside you could not ask for a better addition to the already brilliant "Dresden Files" series. Jim Butcher has a unique way of blending dark fantasy, with the mystery detective genre rather seamlessly. While each book does well enough on it's own you really should begin with "Storm Front" to get a complete background on the characters and storyline.
