First of all let me tell you that this plot is not new. The movie "Wag the Dog" starring Dustin Hoffman has a fake war too.
The story is well written and fast paced so you'll have a good time reading it but it also has some blunders.

Spoiler:
If you haven't read the book don't read this:

The plot is a little far-fetched because I really don't think that Russia or China will start a war just for hearing some scuttlebutt and not checking the truth of it. I think that part is utterly false and wrong not to mention that everybody will use the same dealer to buy war-ware.

42.State of Fear by: Michael Crichton

Books : State of Fear
I've read all of Crichton's novels except for this. The man died a few days ago and that prompted me to pick this off my shelf after a few years in waiting. It is his most controversial novel, casting serious doubts over the validity of scientific claims about global warming and the many claims of environmental groups.

It is one of Crichton's better novels. He uses multiple plot lines that coalesce quickly to resolve themselves into a pacey and driven narrative. There is less of a science lesson up front than Crichton often feeds us - this is broken down into chunks throughout the novel so that the thriller element takes its grip early.

Crichton's characters are usually fairly two-dimensional and this is no exception. Intelligent, educated, white, middle class with little ... Read More

Graphic and entertaining. In a good way, of course.

I found the main character absolutely intriguing, and was delighted to read small excerpts from his past every once in a while. The rest of the characters all had a certain charm to them. The first-person narrative was great, and never exasperating.

However, the book seemed to take too much time describing Victor's many sexual encounters, and not enough on his choking experiences.
I knew the main character was a sex addict and all, but isn't the book called Choke?

I found myself sitting between my mom and grandma at Thanksgiving reading a detailed sex scene, looking over my shoulder every few seconds as to make sure they weren't staring at me wide-eyed.

In the end, it made for a very good read, ... Read More

This book is a timeless and beloved classic. It's a beautiful story of class in Jane Austen's time that appeals to us today because it is so well-wrtitten. It's scrupulously clean morally, and I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates the time when love stories were wholesome and pure and touching. All the characters have an appeal that's makes you appreciate the way they fit into the story.

Stories of women in the Bible are few and far between. When they are included, they are often temptresses, harlots, or victims. Occassionally they are heroes. Because of the time and influences of authors and editors, their stories are limited and culled. Anita Diamant examines the life of one of these women, Dinah. In Genesis 34, the story of her rape and the revenge enacted by two of her brothers (of the 12 sons of Israel) is presented, but nothing is ever written about her again. Diamant tells her tale from Dinah's point of view. She begins by telling the stories of the wives of Jacob, which to her are as important as the life of Dinah.

Diamant shows her love of Biblical history and scholarship by presenting the smallest details and showing their importance. She embraces the tone of a woman of the time. ... Read More

47.Fahrenheit 451 by: Ray Bradbury

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Fahrenheit 451
If ever there is a formula for the perfect novel, 451 has the ingredients. It would be one part science fiction masked in a glaze of poetic impulse, settled on a bed of classic literature soaking up the juices of vast philosophical thought. The burning of books is a horror to any who love the written word and our freedom to dream. It would be our worst nightmare for society to regress to a state of anti-intellectualism so staunch that ideas themselves have become the enemy. Ray Bradbury not only captures our fears in this post nuclear world but also touches upon our often forgotten love for the stories that have captured our hearts. This is a must read for anyone who has ever loved a book.

The book was very well written. Not my type of book. It was selected as a book for my book club. I thought it would be more spiritual. A bit too much agony and strife to take in for a pleasure read.

Books : On Writing: A Memoir Of The Craft
In On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft Stephen King says that we must come to writing in almost any way but lightly. We may be angry or exhuberant or jealous or anguished. I repeat, as does he, we must come to the craft any way but lightly. This is a side of Stephen King I have neve seen before, and I like it. The book is a wonderful guide to the art, to the craft of writing. My book is new, but is already earmarked and looks worn with age, as all great books should. All true devotees to the craft of writing, all who know that the demands of writing are great, should own this book. It is a revelation.

Books : The Goal (revised): A Process of Ongoing Improvement
Sound quality was great and the effects kept it interesting. Unfortunately, the computer files were mislabeled so when I put this on my ipod the chapters were rearranged. When I was listening, the chapters were presented out of order. It didn't seem to matter.

This was required reading for me so I don't care about the content. Although, the storyline about the narrator's personal life was too much added drama and negativity.
