The writing is absolutely terrible. The dialogue is fit for a children's novel. I found myself almost ashamed to be reading something so juvenile. However, the story was pretty good and that is the ONLY thing that kept me going. My biggest disapointment is that his characters are a complete copy of the Vince Flynn characters. Scot Harvath is a very annoying and juvenile version of Flynn's Mitch Rapp character. So much so that even his love interest is a physically violated, daughter of an ex-cop, beautiful woman from Chicago. Come on! This is a total rip off on Ana Riley in the Flynn novels.

Even the character's professional progression follows the Flynn story line. The main difference, of course, is that Vince Flynn can actually write believeable, semi-mature dialogue. ... Read More

I was a bit skeptical when I bought this book as it is a book about the Ghost Recon franchise by Ubisoft/Tom Clancy. Why? The Ghosts are the best of the best of the American Special Forces. They use the most advanced, not to mention expensive, equipment in the world, and they use it with great efficiency and lethality.

The trouble, I thought, would be in describing all this near-future equipment and technology to people who had never played the games before. I am big fan of the Ghost Recon series, and I found that this book did the Ghosts justice. (I still wish they would drop the MR-C, as it's a totally unrealistic weapon. For those that don't know, the MR-C or Military Rifle - Caseless is a weapon design by Crye Associates. It is, however, just a design. There is no plan to ever ... Read More

I will not comment on the story, but the quality of the writing is poor. It needs to be edited by a 7th grade English teacher. I recommend that you go to the hardcover version on Amazon and use the "Look Inside" feature to read the first chapter. That will provide an example of the writing style so you can decide for yourself it is readable.

Jack Reacher kicks butt. He may be a loner. But alone, he is a one man army. He does what most of us wish we could do. This book is fantastic. Read the whole series.

In Bad Luck And Trouble, Jack Reacher gets a coded message for help, from a member of his old army unit. A member of the old unit has been found dead in the desert, and a number of others seem to be missing.

This story varies slightly from other Reacher novels, as Reacher is working against the bad guys, with the help of a few of his former colleagues, and not by himself.

I found Reacher's army colleague's interesting, and I was rooting for them all the way, even though we do not learn too much about their characters, or past, other than there were all once very close. It was good to see Reacher's character working with other people, though, in searching for clues, making plans, and putting those plans into action.

However, I thought the bad guys were very one ... Read More

Gabriel Allon is, arguably, one of the most fascinating characters devised in works of espionage and this was the initial book in the ongoing series. As with all of the stoties by the writer, the characters are richly developed and the plot is a very complex one with numerous turns existing. The witer is able to handle numerous plotlines in different parts of the world in a most skillful manner. One is able to visualize the characters as real people and empathize with their reasons for reacting as they do. Perhaps the most significant issue raised by the writer deals with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He is able to verbalize the deep passion that exists on both sides and presents this as a reason that causes problems in a resolution ever coming to the fore. This is a superbly well done book that is a rapid ... Read More

47.Digital Fortress by: Dan Brown
2000

Books : Digital Fortress
In this political thriller, a devastatingly beautiful (and genius) NSA agent and her enthrallingly handsome (and genius) fiancé fight to save the world from eminent destruction via an unbreakable computer code.

This is definitely not my favorite Dan Brown book--not by a long shot. Although the narrative is quick, and the story is original, the characters fail to satisfy. They are flat and stereotyped. They are also significantly less intelligent than they are supposed to be. The plot is achingly predictable. I had guessed most of the plot within the first couple chapters. The climax was tedious as I was able to decode the message in a few seconds and then had to wait another 5 or so pages for the supposedly experienced and uber-intelligent characters to figure it out. I guess my worst problem, though, is that ... Read More

`The Messenger' by Daniel Silva

I was late to reading Daniel Silva, however, I am absolutely hooked and `The Messenger' is a big reason why. This is the second Gabriel Allon novel I've had the pleasure of reading - the first being `The Secret Servant', which I didn't think could be topped - and yet again, my favorite novelist delivers big time! This tight, twisting plot is as cerebral as the star of the show.

Art history plays a big part of this book which adds an extremely interesting cultural dimension, never mind an integral part of the story itself. `The Messenger' sees Messir Allon confronting `Jihad Inc.', the Israeli spy services pet name for a radical militant Middle Eastern terror group emanating from Saudi Arabia. Our hero must find a way to infiltrate the aforementioned group in hopes of ... Read More

I'm reading it on tour and enjoying it immensely. I grew up in the U.K. digging his stuff in Black Adder, Fry and Laurie etc. Got to meet him briefly once and he was a gentleman. I'm looking forward to the next one. Good job Hugh.

IS Gibson selling out to APC and iPod? Or is he playing their game and exposing it to the reader?

Beside that... it is a very good representation of actual spy transfers
