51.The Oxford Illustrated Prehistory of Europe from: Oxford University Press, USA

Books : The Oxford Illustrated Prehistory of Europe
I am on my second reading of this book as it contains too much info to absorb the first time around. Very good coverage of paleolithic environment and the impact on prehistoric peoples. However, there is virtually no mention of women throughout the entire book. There is almost a complete lack of description of female burials and burial objects, and lack of any attempt to document the role of women in prehistoric times.

Books : Wisdom of the Bones, The: In Search of Human Origins
I had to read this book for an introduction to archaeology anthropology class in college this semester (fall 2007). I really enjoyed reading it. Compared to the professor's textbook, it was an easy read for a paleoanthropologic study, almost like a novel. I learned so much about the history of the field of paleoanthropology, archaeology and humans such as anatomy and why and how we are able to do what we do. I thought this was the best book we had to read for the semester. I'm very glad the professor assigned it. I feel like I've added not only an enormous amount of knowledge but valuable knowledge. Many subjects in the book applied to so many different parts of my life, my relationships and my future. I am really amazed at how this book has applied to me. I highly recommend it to people who ... 53.Age of Stonehenge (History in the landscape series) by: Colin Burgess

Books : Age of Stonehenge (History in the landscape series)
This book is the most comprehensive overview of found objects and conclusive evidence that I have read to date. It is old, but that doesn't matter, since the material it covers is much older. Fascinating! A little difficult to get through at times, but factual, and therefore and invaluable resource.

Books : Patterns in Prehistory: Humankind's First Three Million Years
I found myself listening to people whine and complain about the detail that Wenke goes into when discussing a topic. As compared to a textbook such as Fagan's 'People of The Earth', 'Patterns in Prehistory' certainly is rather long-winded in some regards. When cramming for a test, it might not be the best, yet I thouroughly enjoyed reading through it. It feels as though you are having a discussion with Mr. Wenke himself, not trudging through the required reading before a lecture. It's the kind of textbook you take with you to a comfortable chair and read leisurely, not one with which you come armed with highliter, expecting helpful 'test terms' and colorful pictures. I'm glad I was able to use this textbook as opposed to Fagan (which I've glanced over). I feel that I have come away with a much better understanding ... Read More

A handful of black-and-white maps illustrate this thoughtful chronicle, which delves deep into the history of individual routes. Above the Gravelbar is not a travel guide per se, but rather gives itself over to the rich, scenery-capturing detail sure to intrigue armchair travelers and canoe connoisseurs.

Books : Polynesians: Prehistory of an Island People (Ancient Peoples and Places)
This book is an archlogical textbook. It is dry as dirt. It is quie informative, but not particularly exciting. As Polynesians left no written history (except for the Easter Islanders, but no one can read their script, rongorongo), their history is gleaned from pottery, tools, and building types. After the fifth island group's adze type, well, things get quite dry. But reading about theories on how they migrated from east Asia across the Pacific can really fire the imagination. I recommend this book to anyone seriously interested in Polynesia.
