wonderful , fairly accurate story. He certainly was a Roosevelt product of his time. None have come even close to FDR, President when I grew up.His story as he probably was allowed to see it, certainly not the whole truth as has been written otherwise.....

I found this book to be highly thought provoking. The style of writing was interesting as well, being on a road trip and the internal thoughts it promotes. Jesse's direct and to the point style is appealing. He demonstrates that governing does not and should not be overtly complicated, yet that is exactly what it is and what most people think it is today. When I finished this book I felt more confident in the idea that governing is not about furthering an agenda, but rather keeping the peace and flow of citizens so that they can further themselves on their own without government interference.

If you do not like Jesse Ventura, the personality or politician, this book is a good read simply for his thought provoking viewpoints. You will question where you stand on issues and that ... Read More

Oh John McCain, I do feel very bad that you've gone through so much. Perhaps you should have told Mr. Salter (the ex-security guard turned novelista) to focus more on that and less on the near one hundred pages of exposition touting your father and his father's accomplishments and quirky views on life. Everyone's familiar with the little piece of Americana that is the perpetually is-he-or-isn't-he-drunk father, and that exposition displays it in spades. However, we the readers would probably rather hear about the gritty, mind-numbingly foreign Hanoi Hotel and how you managed to stay sane (and proudly patriotic) in a situation that not many can even dare to sympathize with.

I was required to read this book for a college class (in one of the more moderate to extreme liberal universities ... Read More

This book is a must read for anyone that wants to know why something like 9-11 happened and why it will happen again. The inner workings of the CIA are laid bare for us to see. You will be proud and horrified all at the same time. Mr. Baer writes a very enjoyable narrative and fills this book with information that makes you feel like you are eavesdropping on the seventh floor. Read this and then go get his other books. They are worth any price.

I have just started to read "Promies to Keep"This book promises to be straight forward regarding this man who apparently lives as taught by his parents - "no one is better than you and you are no better than others". That would be a great character strength for someone 1 step away from being president of the United States. I believe the facts and thoughts he intends to put forth are honest.

If I could have met two Historical figures they would have been Prime Minister Churchill & President Reagan. I often thought that someone should do a comparison of these two great icons of History and here it is.

I have read this book and in my humble opinion Mr. Hayward has done a great job in comparing & contrasting the style and personalities of these two men.

I think that if you are an admirer of either PM Churchill or President Reagan (like I am)then this is a must have book. I'm glad it is part of my Churchill/Regan collection.

This was just OK for me ... I was expecting something a bit more exciting. His story was interesting, but it felt a little forced, especially on his investigative trips that felt more like a paper-pusher wanting to be more. I thought he did a great job relating the day-to-day stress that these agents live everyday, and the effects on their family life. It makes you appreciate what you don't know is done for your security.

After finishing David Halberstam's "Best and the Brightest," I decided to learn what Goodwin had to say about LBJ. I was disappointed. This book does not even mention the word "Tonkin" in any way, shape, or form. How can you write a book about LBJ and not mention Tonkin? Well, that's where my 3-star rating comes in. For despite a superficial treatment of Johnson's White House years, Goodwin does succeed in communicating the enormity of Johnson's tragic ego-centrism and insecurity. First came Johnson, then Nixon. Which means the collective "we" elected two very sick personalities to the highest office in the land without nary batting an eyelash. Which of course is a comment on "us" and I believe that is part of Goodwin's thesis.

Although Goodwin's access to Johnson certainly provided for some incredible ... Read More

This wonderful book is a biography of Governor of Alaska, and Vice-Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin. The book both tells the story of Sarah Palin, and goes into depth on the character she had displayed throughout her life - especially during her public career.

This is a very interesting and informative book, one that I thought really gives the reader a good understanding of Sarah Palin - both what she has done, and what it says about her. And, it succeeded in holding my interest from cover to cover, which is a definite plus. So, if you want to know more about Sarah Palin, then I would highly recommend that you get this book!
