The point of this book, that different people need to be showed love in different ways, is a solid one. I've been telling my husband that for years! I certainly wasn't telling him as clearly as Chapman describes in this book, though.

I appreciated being able to clarify my thoughts about expressing love by reading this book. Chapman's ideas weren't revolutionary to me, but were reassuring nonetheless.

Aspects of this book didn't work for me. The individual stories were a bit simplistic, full of couples whose marriages seemed totally on the rocks until they tried this easy love language method that fixed everything in their lives. The book itself, with its pages of pink puffy clouds and flower illustrations, looked a bit like a cheesy greeting card, and as a non ... Read More

52.2666 (Narrativas Hispanicas) by: Roberto Bolano

This is, simply put, My Favorite book. Roberto Bolano worked very hard to get to this point. I read most of his books, and it shows how he was walking the path to get to this point, in which he embraces all different styles of writing and storytelling. The subject and stories are very relevant to our times. He makes philosophical and political statements in a very elegant way, and never forgetting about good humor. He erases borders in styles and formats. Hopefully all artists can learn from his approach to literature and take a step forward.

As I read this book, I could not figure out why it was so popular among the masses, and why it has spent so much time on the bestseller list.

But upon a quick internet search, I learned the reason why...it's been blessed by the hands of the almighty Oprah.

The book is o.k., but definitely nothing spectacular. People, wake up...think for yourself, make your own decisions. Oprah could recommend Webster's Dictionary and it would land on the bestseller's list tomorrow. Sad. This says so much about the state of society today.

Also sad is how many people apparently connect with this very needy writer. Strong women can live without a man (and I'm a man)...but this author can't get them off her mind. Be an individual for godsakes.

Having tossed aside Koontz's novels since "The Husband", it was with great hestitation that I purchased this novel. I was curious to see how he would rebound after the "Odd" series and his previous tedious dog story.

I was surprised and happy to find I actually finished this one and while it lagged in several places, it held my interest. Koontz defintely did his homework about heart transplants and cardiomyopathy so for those interested in such it gave a glimpse of the disease. I was a bit confused with some of the early apparitions and other strange happenings in his home but when I put that aside I found I wanted to know the outcome.

All in all, this novel is more like the "old" Dean Koontz although somewhat flawed and confusing at times.
My rating is based on the moral of his story; one ... Read More

David Sedaris is a talented writer, but his work in this tome is inconsistent. It all goes down smoothly, but never rises to the level of "Dress Your Children in Denim and Corduroy." Each of these short essays was previously published elsewhere and they don't quite come together as an anthology.

I'm gravely dissapointed at this book, since hardely any of the articles correspond with what Barney has said. Since the previous authors have no clue I felt the urge to inform all potential buyers not to buy this copy. For example, we all know that Bro Code Article 89 is:
The mom of a bro is always off limits, but the stepmom of a bro is always fair game IF she initiates it and/or is wearing atleast one article of leopard clothing
In this travesty Amazon call The Bro Code article 89 is: A Bro shall always say yes in support of a Bro

I found Michael Pollan's book to be quite informative and interesting. The strength of the book was the detailing of much of the modern food chain and our dependence on but a very few staple items, namely corn and soy, to supply a very high percentage of our caloric needs. The percentage of our total caloric needs ultimately supplied by corn is quite amazing. There are many interesting facts that should make readers much more interested in a more varied diet, and making sure the food they eat is as nutritional as it should be. The weakness of the book was in Pollan's assertion that "humans invented morality", but he was in moral turmoil over the morality of killing/eating meat. If you honestly believe that matter plus time pus chance = you, it's hard to see how this turmoil emerges. Only if morality is not invented, but objective, ... Read More

I read all of Grisham's books and usually like them, but this is way below standard.
The characters are too stereotypical, they are either perfectly good or perfectly bad; the story is predictable, and there is too much politics.

Spoiler:
All republicans are bad, all democrats are good. Only republicans take money from big business.
