I've always felt that Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers all existed in the same universe. The Verhoeven-verse where every shot was a headshot, the TV spewed jingoist propaganda, and starkly black humor boiled forth in a smash-mouth whirlwind of kinetic science fiction action cinema. As a huge fan of both Frank Miller and Verhoeven, when I learned Miller would be scripting the sequel, I was giddy...until I saw incomprehensible wreckage that was Robocop 2.

It had its moments, but for the most part was not a movie for fans of the original. Well, it turns out that the script that Miller wrote was butchered in production. THAT script has actually made it into my brain though via the awesome adaption by Avatar Press.

It's got a sarcastic and media weary tone of ... Read More

I purchased the Marvel Premiere Classic HC of Wolverine. This is the orange/black cover (with issue #1 centered) 2,000 only limited version that contains Wolverine #1-4, and Uncanny X-Men #172-173.

And what's the first page? Page 17.

No introduction, just a brown filled page, then Page 17 of Wolverine #1. This HC contains pages 17-144 of the trade.

Ridiculous.

I haven't read much of Wolverine, and I wanted to meet this character a bit better, so I purchased this comic. And I've been blown away... especialy by Cleremont/BWS Weapon X story. One of the best art jobs ever done. Buy it, for other stories too (there's Miller inside, inspirative as ever).

It was so cool reading this book and seeing so many of my favorite covers being reprinted and having all the numerous people who were essential to Batman (Dennis O'Neil, Christopher Nolan, Mark Hamil, Adam West, Jeph Loeb, etc.) talk about their favorite covers. It really took me back seeing some of them, and reminded me why I love Batman so much. The covers are great, and the reprinting if pretty high quality with a few that could have been better. Overall, I am incredibly satisfied with this book and will definitely look over it many a time to see all of the great covers. Five stars is not enough to convey my appreciation for this book.

this is an amazing set but i recommend buying from a different site. the set for sin city library 1 and 2 are very over priced here. If you love sin city and want to pay a reasonable price for the set check out "things from another world" the collection is much cheaper at this site.

26.Daredevil Visionaries - Frank Miller, Vol. 1 from: Marvel Comics

Books : Daredevil Visionaries - Frank Miller, Vol. 1
The start of Frank Miller as an artist. You can see the beginning of the type of story he is interested in. How the Mauler story comes across could almost have been a tale of The Spirit, for example. Some odd villains, the Black Widow, and as he points out, the nicking of Spider-Man villains, with Doctor Octopus, plus the appearance of that green rampaging Hulk.

If you like either Will Eisner or Frank Miller, you will likely enjoy this book. I have been a fan of Will Eisner since the 1970s Warren Magazine reprint series of THE SPIRIT! I am not a big fan of Frank Miller, (his work is too violent and raunchy for me), but Frank and Will together have plenty of interesting insights during this extended conversation between the two comics legends.

The book is nearly 350 pages of text and b/w photos and artwork! It is a real page-turner if you enjoy comics and/or Miller and Eisner! I read it all in a single weekend, well spent time and money.

In fact, the book itself was recorded over a weekend, in Florida, at Eisner's home and office, then went through a transcription and a couple of rounds of approvals, updates, corrections, and such.

The book ... Read More

We have here, a tale of two Moon Knights. The first one debuting in Werewolf by Knight, appearing in some other comics and settling in as a back up feature in Hulk Magazine. The second appearing in his own book.

Moon Knight first appears with a so-so origin in Werewolf by Knight, but quickly grows into something much more as a back-up feature in Hulk Magazine. The stories in Hulk magazine are first rate, mature, adult stories with real consequences and some ugly things happening as well as some overtly sexual moments from Marlene. The artwork is superb and the writing first rate.

When Moon Knight moves into his own title the maturity of the stories is dialed back a notch and he becomes more of a standard comic book hero as opposed to the urban warrior he was portrayed as earlier. The art continues to be good, ... Read More

Give Me Liberty is an insanely over-the-top graphic novel that revels in ultra-violence and outsize characterizations. Miller's depiction of a futuristic America is among the most lucid and original I've seen in any medium. I won't go into too many details, but let's just say the White House gets blown up TWICE throughout the course of the story, and there's a graphic scene where soldiers fight a giant fast food mascot in Brazil. While his politics are nothing if not questionable, it's hard to level any real complaint at Miller when the action is this entertaining. This is, in its essence, a high-budget NC-17 science fiction blockbuster, and Gibbons' artwork brings it to life beautifully.
