Years ago, I stumbled onto one of the short stories in this book in another anthology, and loved it. It was called the Erl-King, but I couldn't remember the author, and was never able to find it again. I ordered The Bloody Chamber for the retelling of the Bluebeard story, and was thrilled to find that the Erl-King was one of the other stories. All the stories in this book are wonderful. They are all dark and bloody as any good fairy tale is, and beautifully written. I pined over the Erl-king for years, so it was a joy to reread it, and to find the other tales inside just as good.

Way too much narrative detail and not enough action and dialogue. This book seems to be an attempt by the author to prove, through his characters, that he's an intellectual. It didn't work, for me.

Although the first part of the book seems a bit slow filled with details of Socrates' youth, nevertheless the book is amazing! Like all good books, this book made me want to cry, laugh, and smile during different moments in the book. This book made me contemplate about my own life and how our ancestors struggled with life during their earlier existence. The biggest gift this book has given me is the understanding that life is full of struggles and hardships but nothing is more valuable then incorporating life as a lesson for cultivating wisdom and compassion. I've read all 3 books of the Peaceful Warrior saga and I highly recommend all of them! It provides great depth and inspiration for those who are searching for a more mindful way of living...

My grandson who is 6 has just finished the Book I (mostly read to him by his mom), and is going to be very excited to receive Books 2 and 3 for Christmas. These are wonderful books and I highly recommend them. Fantastic Christmas and birthday gifts for your grandchildren, as well as your children. Positive reinforcement is always good.

For once, in the history of time, I've found that I like the MOVIE better than the book. Such a shock. This is still a good read, but having seen the movie first, I was disappointed that the characters weren't the same as the movie, and that there wasn't a fuller version of the story in the book, more on their witchy side, their lives filled in... Well, their lives were filled in, but not as you'd expect the Sally and Jilly that you know from the big screen. Alice Hoffman still pulls you in with her writing, she knows how to make it all real, sexy, and even dark. A very good read - I'm just prejudiced by the movie!

I am reading The 12th Planet (for the second time, so it can come together for me). When I first started reading it I was very curious about Enki, and wanted to order this book. I changed my mind because of the reviews on here. I was turned off by the poetic stuff, and just wasn't interested in reading it. But the more I continued reading, the more curious I became about Enki, and finally my curiosity got the best of me (it usually does)! I have started reading this book, and just can't put it down. I am now about three fourths of the way through the book, and just had to stop to come write this, in case there were others who were hesitating like I was. A science fantasy tale of energy fields, psychic weapons and paranoia. The Tibetan monks in this tale talk a strange new age lingo invented by the author, who appears never to have encountered real Tibetans, Tibetan Buddhist teachings, or the Kalachakra Tantra which is the source of Shambhala teachings. I also doubt that he has ever encountered the Tibetan language, given the confusion he makes between transliteration and spoken Tibetan. If you would like to understand the relevance of Shambhala in our age, I would suggest starting with "Shambhala, the Sacred Path of the Warrior" by Trungpa. If you prefer fiction, I find James Hilton's "Lost Horizon" more inspiring.

Abraham's teachings are presented in a very unique way in the Sara books.
