I usually pride myself on being able to figure out the "culprit" before the end of the book; I was quite surprised!
I personally like that James Patterson writes short chapters because I can put the book down at the end of a chapter.....or if I want to read a little more, the next chapter won't be very long either.
I've passed this book along to friends and they were as surprised as I was at the ending.

Greg Iles is a truly gifted writer and one can find certain consistencies in the books that he writes. Save for his first two novels which are well done espionage thrillers, there is the use of his hometown of Natchez, Mississippi as a setting. The characters have great depth and are extremely well developed with a conteporary theme being central to the story line. In this novel, he delves into the complexities of growing up as a High Schooler in the twenty first century. This is done in the confines of a well written mystery with numerous double and triple twists throughout the work. As with many of his books, this seems like a film script with real depth as well as research having existed. This was an excellent and exciting read.

A young woman is talking to her married lover about the impending birth of their unplanned child. Neither one of them is happy, to say the least. The ripples from the single instance of indiscretion that led to her situation threaten to deluge the entire country with problems that could erode the very foundation of our Constitution. However, his wife Anne cannot accept the notion that her husband is a murderer and hires Elijah Faulkner to defend him against the charges he faces.

I am a big fan of Fairstein, however, this book did not live up to my expectations. I'm getting sick of the "formula" and this book wasn't as gripping as the others. It's a decent read but I do not think it is a must read.

46.Escape by: Robert K. Tanenbaum

The book began rather well with a "grab 'em by the collar" opening and Tannenbaum certainly knows how to write but wow did it get bogged down fast. After reading 196 pages of this hefty tome (520 pages .... Yikes!!) I just couldn't take any more. The plot line got lost in a myriad of character developments all of which had the stale scent of out-takes from old Matlock shows. With all due respect to those who love this series it pales in comparison to the Peter Robinson's Alan Banks books.

I totally agree with all the superlatives heaped on this wonderful book. Usually I don't take the time to write a review unless I have something original to contribute, but since this is the best book I've read this year, I just had to add another positive to those already written.

49.Cause of Death (Kay Scarpetta) by: Patricia Daniels Cornwell
2003-11
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Cause of Death (Kay Scarpetta)
This book, while nowhere near as good a read as "From Potter's Field" or even "Postmortem", still shows that Cornwell's a decent writer of thrillers. Here, Scarpetta is pitted against a religious cult with plans to take over a nuclear reactor and destroy the world. It's a plot that would better serve James Bond, but Cornwell keeps the forensic science up to date. There's an annoying investigator who gets on Scarpetta's nerves (but there's one of them in nearly every book) but he's easily dispatched.

Highly recommended for fans of murder mystery and historical fiction.

London in the time of Henry the VIII; dirty, smelly, crowded, exciting, political, and dangerous. England has booted out the Catholic Church so King Henry could marry Ann Boylen (who by now has been beheaded): the catholic countries of Spain and France ally with the Pope to plot the conquest of England. A new weapon has been discovered, the atom bomb of the late medieval times, but murder occurs and the weapon goes missing. The main character, lawyer who happens to be a hunchback, is called into service to try to save the day against a deadline.
The plot is good, the story moves apace, the twists and turns are believable and the ending quite unexpected and historically accurate. The sense of time and place is very well done.
