I have read this book myself at least twice. This book was purchased as a graduation present for a nephew. I wish someone had made me read this book at the age of 13. Franklin is quite the character. There are a lot of controversies surrounding his life, but for the purpose of instruction, I prefer to quit the debating society. This fellow is the first native born genius of record produced in this country. He may have painted a rosy picture of his life, but any of us would in an autobiography. If you want a critical examination of his life, check out some of the excellent athoritive biographies available. If you want inspiration, read this. Most inspiring are the roles that thrift and hard work played in his success and his practical approach to striving for "moral perfection".

12.Snow Falling on Cedars (Large Print Edition) by: David Guterson

Books : Snow Falling on Cedars (Large Print Edition)
It seems that Guterson has several types of readers for this novel. There are those who come to it for the sake of the place. (And what a beautiful place it is.) There are those who come to it for the sake of the period in history. (And what a wrenching, fear-driven time it was....) And there are those, like me, who come for the weaving of the tale. The story is masterfully told, and I absolutely loved rain as a motif in this novel. It's a book that made me question whether I could ever be a novelist; if I can't write as well as Guterson, I don't want to write at all.

14.My American Journey: An Autobiography (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper)) by: Colin L. Powell, Joseph Persico

Books : My American Journey: An Autobiography (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper))
Colin Powel is clearly a great American as exemplified among his many accomplishments and life experiences. However, this presentation of his life story is arduous and without excitement. This book often presents itself more like an encyclopedia entry than an insightful biography. While equal blame may lay on my view of Powel's somewhat humdrum life as much as the writing style of this book, I believe this book will only be of interest to those already seeking to research Powell's life, not those in search of an enthralling piece.

My mother wanted a large print dictionary and she seemed very satisfied with this as a gift. The print for definitions and pronunciations is very easy to read and entries are clear, if brief. I explained the dictionary would probably not have the more obscure words because otherwise it would be the size of a suitcase, but she was happy with the contents. All in all, very satisified!

Books : Julia's Kitchen Wisdom: Essential Techniques and Recipes from a Lifetime in Cooking (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper))
The late Julia Child produced MANY cookbooks but this one, in my opinion, is second only to her Magnum opus, Mastering the Art of French Cooking (make sure to acquire either the 1961 edition, or the 1966 one which is a reprint and be aware that "Volume II" has nothing much to do with "Volume I" which is this one).

I'm a huge fan of Julia's common sense approach to cooking, which is also tenoned with her professional knowledge. The cookbook which I'm reviewing here represents a maturity of Julia's years of cooking knowledge, rarely found elsewhere. The book's subtitle is, "Essential Techniques and Recipes from A Lifetime of Cooking," which is significant to understanding what is to be found in the text. Only Jacques Pepin and one other rivals her in this realm: Jacques Pepin's Complete Techniques. ... Read More

Books : Halley's Bible Handbook
I bought this handbook trough Amazon about two years ago. Ever since, it's on my desk (together with my "Old Scofield" and some other Dutch books) and i use it a lot when preparing Bible studies, articles for my online bible course and an occasional sermon.

The information in this book is sometimes really stunning, i've read about things i've never heard about before! I've been checking lots of it on the internet (always check and double check!), found new and additional information on subjects and in at least 95% of the cases the archeological information in this book is still very up to date and accurate. I've recommanded it to many people in the past two years.

Personally i believe that every student of the Bible should own a copy of this book. Even if some of the information seems to ... Read More
