I got this at an airport and wasn't exoecting anything but nI was surprised at how good it was and compares better to the author's whole series of Arthurian legends. It is good.

Books : The Last Full Measure: A Novel (Random House Large Print (Cloth/Paper))
I've just finished THE LAST FULL MEASURE and it is a wonderful bookend to the Civil War trilogy started by the author's father in the Pulitzer Prize winning THE KILLER ANGELS and so respectfully finished by his equally talented son. THE LAST FULL MEASURE takes off where KILLER ANGELS ends as Lee brings his troops home from Gettysburg and brings us to the end of the war. I found this book to be the most emotional of the three, there were times where I literally had to stop to take a breath as the scope of the horrors of the war are so vividly brought to life. That's good writing. Jeff Shaara like his father has a gift of getting into the heads of the characters to the point where the reader has no doubt that this is actually who they are and what they said. Lee, Grant, Chamberlain, Longstreet are ... Read More

It was very unclear that this book is in Spanish. It took me 3 tries and I never got the correct book. I kept talking to customer service overseas and there was no way to tell the webmaster that it only says it is in Spanish in the product details. They finally gave me my money back. I love the book, so I'll buy it elsewhere.

Great read. I am by no means an expert on literature but I enjoyed this book. It is a bit hard to see the robin hood story at times but a great read none the less. Definitely worth purchasing.

26.Heaven's Net Is Wide by: Lian Hearn

Books : Heaven's Net Is Wide
After reading the first four books-- Across the Nightingale Floor, Grass for His Pillow, and Brilliance of the Moon, Harsh Cry of the Heron (which, truth must be told, I don't know if I could read again... I got too angry at the end... Stupid Kaede!)-- I fell in love with the world and the characters. Heaven's Net is Wide is a MOST welcome expansion upon the character and story of Shigeru. He had been somewhat of an enigma in the first book- we never quite knew what he was thinking- but HNiW explains his personality and actions beautifully.

The fact that I can't reread Harsh Cry of the Heron because it is literally too painful speaks volumes for the author's abilities, and Heaven's Net is Wide definitely showcases those abilities as well. Both books made me feel for the characters so acutely it ... Read More

We wait sooo very long for new books in this series that sometimes it's almost as though they were reads eons ago. I wanted this book to come out much more quickly than it did. But it literally took me a couple of years to read. I kept putting it down because I just couldn't get into it until after reading at least 100 pages. After that point I ravaged through it. Ms Auel could possibly have condensed this one somewhat. It hasn't deterred me from the next in the series. Whenever that comes along.

Another Wilbur Smith book you simply can't put down. From page one to the end he keeps you spellbound by his description of ancient Egypt and his skillful weaving of a love story full of romance and mystery. Wilbur Smith is a master of suspense and when you think you have figured out what will happen next, he will surprise you with a clever twist. I highly recommend this book which is the first of a series of three. I can't wait to read the next one.

Grendel
John Gardner
5-stars

I'm amused by the angst of Gardner's critics. Many of them seem as misanthropic as Gardner's Grendel, and though many of the critics are respected colleagues, I find their review of Gardner's masterpiece to be skewed by their own prejudices, political leanings, or disbelief that any one would ever poke fun at a classical piece of literature. (Oh,what shameful disregard!)
Some have claimed that Grendel whines like a modern teenager. How do we know that wasn't Gardner's intent? As the artist, isn't it his prerogative to create his fictional landscape? And yes, the Dragon comes across like Timothy Leary on LSD but of course, that may exactly be the way Gardner wanted it to appear. One critique repines that Grendel's mother plays such a minor role in Grendel, and ... Read More

Hmmm. It's impossible to write about the plot in a coherent manner because there are several intertwining threads:

As the title implies, this book is mainly about the Taltos--a race of beings we were introduced to in The Witching Hour. Ashlar is, or at least believes himself to be, the last of his kind. He's lonely, currently obsessed with dolls (collecting and manufacturing them), and when he discovers another Taltos has been seen, he drops everything to check it out.

And of course there are the Mayfairs, as this is the last book of the Mayfair Witch trilogy. Rowan seems to be following in her mother's footsteps at the beginning of the book, though she's not quite as completely catatonic--she walks, eats, dresses herself, etc., but doesn't speak, communicate, or acknowledge the presence of others. ...
