This is a timeless story that we have all lived at one point in our lives and also know people who have lived in the storm and are needing help finding their way out. The simplicity of the story, makes the message hit you square between your eyes. Life is full of second chances and miracles; you just need to know when they're staring you in the face.

This book is a quick read and the impression will last a lifetime. I am giving the book to my entire family for Christmas.

Pleasantly surprised by this effort by Stern cast member Artie Lange. Though it loses steam in the last chapter, the book is a fun and easy read, making you laugh and occasionally may have you shedding a tear or two. This is no Pullitzer-prize winning piece of literature, but if you're a fan of Lange and the Stern Show, you'll get more than your money's worth in this book.

14.Team of Rivals by: Doris Kearns Goodwin

Books : Team of Rivals
The thing I appreciated most about this book is that Goodwin allows us to experience the voices of women and the importance of the women around Lincoln, Chase, Seward, and Bates. Although it is changing, so much American history is delivered to us through the voices of men. Not only is this a great book about Lincoln's political genius, some that was new to me, but she highlights the role of those intelligent and strong women that shaped these men and influenced them in their views. I found their stories very compeling and I honor them in all the work they did to shape history to the present. I disagree with those who say that this book is dry and academic. Goodwin presents a perfect balance between academic history and a very good page turner. It was hard for me to put down.

I just read this book while in Ashland, Wisconsin (where I grew up). Perhaps the environs and my own history there helped me like and embrace this book.

As many have stated, the ending doesn't wrap up the loose ends, doesn't feel "deserved" and it is sad. It does feel a bit rushed. That's one reading of it. Or you can read it as a tribute to the connection of Almondine, Gar, Edgar and what the Sawtelle dogs were supposed to be about.

Life rarely wraps things tidily or satisfactorily for us. The imagery and heart of this book made up for several of the shortcoming for me. The author reworked this for many years, and perhaps the ending got a little overworked in the process.

I like Russian novels so maybe the heavy and depressing are already in my blood... or maybe it's in ... Read More

I think Paolini could have accomplished the same things in a book half as long. Many times the story meandered off course and didn't find it's way back for quite some pages. In fact, quite a few things seemed completely unnecessary. It was too "graphic". Much of the book is spent describing gruesome scenes of carnage. It is NOT a series for people younger than 13.

Much of the book seemed like a game of chess for lack of a better desription. I could feel the author striving for things to make sense, trying to counter the reader's skepticism. I had a hard time believing in the magic system a few times. For example (spoiler), if Brisingr is really the true name of Eragon's new sword why can't other people control the blade if they also know the name? One person doesn't have possession of "rock". Knowing ... Read More

Thomas L. Friedman's new book, "Hot, Flat, and Crowded" is an excellent read for every one interested in the future of planet Earth. Friedman draws connections between different topics which make one realize the need to protect this wonderful resource, Earth, which we inhabit. "Hot" is in reference to global warming. "Flat" implies how the world is becoming smaller; primarily the internet and transportation. "Crowded" refers to human over population of the earth. Friedman shows the strong connection between technology and the progression of the human race. Throughout time, there has always been enough resources to foster the development of new technologies. However, due to the over population of this planet, and the demands of that population, our resources are dwindling. Friedman's philosophy insists that when we create ... Read More

Loved this series, I was hooked with Blood Brothers and it only got better as the series continued. The characters stayed true to form through out the three books and I believe Nora Roberts does a fantastic job developing their stories so well that you feel the same emotions as it goes and her visions are so vivid in my head as I'm reading along. Great read!!!!!!!
