I had never even heard of this author, but somehow...on my bookshelf, there sat "Grace Eventually". I started reading it and found that I was able to relate and experience the author's wisdom and life experiences. I have never had a child, and I admire those who have a good relationship with their offspring. The author shares her love for her son, Sam...He's a lucky guy.

The author does something rarely encountered in contemporary non-fiction, she speaks honestly about the Bush administration with a passionate intelligence that keeps the book from being just another feel good read.

I think you'll like her writing regardless of your political beliefs.

Edwidge Danticat has crafted a remarkable memoir in this book - the story of two brothers, her father and her Uncle Joseph, their love for their family and most of all her love for both of them.

Dandicat was born in Haiti in 1969. When she was only two, her father left Haiti and moved to New York to work, initially with only a visitor's visa. He left his wife and two children behind. But he didn't desert them. He sent letters, money and gifts. After two years he returned for his wife, but because they would have to work so hard to get ahead in New York, he left Edwidge and her younger brother, Bob, with Uncle Joseph and his wife. For the following eight years, Uncle Joseph became a second father to them.

During the time Dandicat lived with her uncle's family, he developed throat cancer. ... Read More

I'm sorry to slam something that has clearly moved so many people as has this monologue script. I also hasten to note that I'm frequently out of step with the tastes of general public, so feel free to take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt....

I do NOT, in ANY way, get the merits of this book/play! What are we going to read about next -- our anuses? The spaces between our toes? Our tongues? ("My tongue, when it curls -- warmly, trustingly, joyously -- against my hard palate... brings me home to myself....")

This piece of work strikes me as the HUGEST fit of public navel-gazing (except lower down, of course) in the past 30 years -- and when you think about some of the writing we've seen in this time, that's going some. On the other hand, maybe it's the naturally-arising response to the ... Read More

As a Brooklyn-born boy who came late into his true inheritance, love of the Brooklyn Dodgers, this book was recommended to me by a friend who appreciates my passion despite the fact that he is a NY Yankees and NY Giants fan.

I've read and enjoyed several of Doris Kearns Goodwin's books, among them Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln,The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys : An American Saga, and No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II, so I assumed I was going to enjoy WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR. And there are things I enjoyed very much.

Kearns Goodwin's recollections of growing up in the Long Island town of Rockville Centre, New York predate mine by twenty years; but certain landmarks were familiar. References to Sunrise Highway, Wolf's Sport Shop, ... Read More

Sarah Walsh has been living under FBI protection since she was kidnapped as a child. The mastermind of the kidnapping has stayed one step ahead of the authorities for over twenty years. If Sarah could just remember what the man looked like maybe they would find him once and for all.

Adam Blake is a retired football star and is in the public eye quite often. When Sarah is trapped in an elevator with him one stormy night, she is not prepared for how persistent Adam could be. He knew right away that Sarah was a woman he could have children with, if he could only convince her to let him in.

Danger In The Shadows was awesome. Right away Dee Henderson drew you in and had you eating in the palm of her hand just waiting for the next crumb of a clue. The stalker was clever and well written and very creepy. Sarah and ... Read More

I had read Zippy, and just wanted more, so I bought this book and I loved it, too. I do have to say it's not AS hilarious; there are parts that are just sad, exposing the problems of the family, which weren't as obvious through the eyes of the younger Zippy.

Still, I loved it and want to read more, but there's no more. :-(
