To begin with....this book is written very well. Concise and to the point.
And, if McClellan's points are true, we should all be mad as hell...and positive that we're not going to take it any more.
I find it hard to believe that Bush has even a 25% approval rating. I would like to meet some of these 25 percenters and try to find out what they see that I don't.
Everyone in America should read thus book, especially young people. The future is in their hands, and this is a turorial regarding how NOT to run a country,

Okay, so the writing ain't supoib, but hey, you gotta see the forest through the trees. This is an important book that should be required reading for everyone, as someone in these reviews said, who is educated or uneducated. Who reads or doesn't read. I've chosen to give copies as door prizes at my talks on volunteering overseas. (CAI doesn't take volunteers, sorry.) Yes, "the defenseless sky" and other such phrases cause little bumps in the readers' road, but the story transcends all this surface noise. Greg can easily find a different writer next time, but please let the story continue. And be careful, Greg!

While it's a bit premature to shelve this title beside true crime classics IN COLD BLOOD and MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL (blame the publisher's marketing department for the hyperbole, not the authors), this remains a fantastic entry in the subgenre as well as a briskly written page turner perfect for the summer. Having lived in Tuscany, I found the book evoking an unsettling blend of chills and nostalgia, and highly recommend it as a tonic to all the "Aren't Italians a lovable bunch of bronzed hedonists!" books, like UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN, etc. In fact the authors' insights into the culture of modern (Northern) Italy -- with particular emphasis on its baroque legal system -- is every bit as fascinating as the crime story. Like ZODIAC (an outstanding and under-appreciated recent film) this is a serial killer narrative ... Read More

As a former grad school history student interested in how Reconstruction and the failure of Radical Reconstruction failed black people and led to years of racial violence and labor oppression (full disclosure: I'm white, born in Britain, lived in the US for nineteen years) this book was very interesting. I can't say the findings he makes are shocking, but the extent of Blackmon's research make the conclusions all the more credible and puts in sharp relief the extent and depth of racism which existed in the South, from the time of the Emancipation Proclamation until World War Two. In addition, his thorough research has documented how black people were, by virtue of the racism which so pervaded Southern life, at the mercy of the most basic local laws.

That this book could be written is an indictment of the pervasiveness ... Read More

As much as I respect Robert Kennedy I find it difficult to read any book about him because I know how his life story will end. While he could have spent a life of ease with his family and money, instead he chose to help those, such as the African Americans and Native Americans, who were often neglected by our affluent society. He found it abhorrent that citizens in Mississippi or on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota were often without enough food to live on. He chose to spend time with people in such dire straits even though he knew many of them didn't vote. I got the feeling that Robert Kennedy campaigned recklessly almost defying an assassin to strike him down as he rode standing up in a convertible and mingling with the people. If this was the price he had to pay to serve America then so be it. In the end he chose ... Read More

Who knew history could be so exciting??? Mr. Dobbs presents a well-researched look at the Cuban Missile Crisis. He and his team of researchers managed to dig up new facts and never-before-seen pictures of the event that only add the suspense. The gunsight pictures from the fighters over Cuba were particular riveting. The fighters flew at 500-1000ft over many of the Soviet installations so pictures are very detailed.

Some of the facts that are revealed are surprising. I won't share them here but will say that they only highlight how close the world came to a nuclear war.

This is effectively a Tom Clancy novel -- ABOUT A REAL LIFE EVENT. Well done, Mr. Dobbs. Brilliant work. I couldn't put the book down.

A friend was reading this book and I picked it up at an airport lay-over having a friend who's son became a SEAL a few years ago.

The odds of completing this most rigorus training among ALL the servies and earning the priviledge of wearing the Navy Trident, are very unlikly.
This writer tells in page flipping detail what they must indure and those few who tolerate the unbelievable 24/7 punishment and make it past Hell Week probably will graduate. Sometimes less than 20% make it and these SEAL recruits are seasoned soldiers and most have made it through other demanding physical training including Rangers, Marine training ...some of the guys are even trying it for the second time! One comes away with the greatest respect and graditude for these Special Operations voluntered American Soldiers. No wonder they are respected around the world. Beyong ... Read More

I didn't read this book at all, so I'm just going to write a bunch of gibberish here and call it a review:

Gixal haeber copmunt er din postip psyx. Gwabbacal min gorrea ghag?

Okay, there's my review.

Point I'm trying to make is that there are a few people who come on here and write a negative so-called "review" of a book, while admitting in the same "review" that they never read the book. I think Amazon should be vigilant of these "reviewers," and any time someone writes a review where they admit that they didn't read the book, that "review" should automatically be deleted. I mean, geez, if you're going to write a review of a book, at least lie and say that you read the dam thing.
