If You Give A Mouse A Cookie
By Laura Joffe Numeroff
Illustrated by Felicia Bond

"If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk."

One thing leads to another in this cute picture book. When you get finished with all of the mouse's requests, he may just want another glass of milk. And we all know what goes well with milk.

Life of Pi has been widely lauded by prestigious professional reviewers, but has also garnered some impassioned criticism. Much of this criticism hinges on the idea that the book promotes irrationality; that it supports an anti-intellectual worldview of a mutable universe, ignoring the absolute existence of the world and suffering. Upon some reflection, I feel that this criticism is entirely unsupported. Certainly the main character, Pi Patel, is particularly religious (he in fact actively practices three religions). However, Pi realizes that there is no evidence of the existence of god, but chooses to believe because it makes the story of his life more personally meaningful. He consciously chooses to suspend disbelieve in order to make some sense of his suffering. In all other ways he is eminently rational; ... Read More

Wayne Dyer is writing about good intentions from his perspective. I agree whole heartedly with what he says and I think this is one of his best works. If some of you wish to come from a negative intention, then you will reap negative rewards. I prefer to come from positive intentions because I have already proven that the positive thought process has worked so many, many times in my life. None of us has all the answers to every situation that life throws at us, but as we learn to live our lives in the best possible attitude of intentions that we can muster up, we will surely discover that life, although extremely hard at times, does have its up sides.

We can wallow in self pity for only so long and then we have to realize at some point in our lives that we have to drag ourselves up out of the mire ... Read More

This is still a new item in our house, but since day 1, it has made a repeat appearance everyday. My daughter begs to have the Professor Parrot movie played on the dvd. Tonight, my husband heard her singing herself to sleep in spanish. She was repeating the songs from the dvd. I just downloaded the 4 page workbook which will enhance my pronunciation of a few words.

The only downside - - no other DVDs. What's Next!!?span

Required textbook for a class I am taking. There was no indication I could find that this is the International version and what was actually required for the course is the domestic version. So far, I haven't noticed any differences in text.

I've read all of the Harry Potter books aloud to my son (who is now 10), and, while we're not yet far into Deathly Hallows, we can see that it will be as fun as all the others. We became engrossed in it from Page One. We're excited to see how the series ends, but we'll miss reading it. It's not only been a good read, but a great experience for us to have together. He could certainly be reading it alone at this point, but we wouldn't miss the shared enjoyment.

I received a teaching once that basicly said that when you get right down to it the Devil really only has two methods for tempting us: 1. Pressure 2. Pleasure. The Devil has three maxims which allows him to pull this off : 1. You (your own thoughts, bad habits, exc.) 2. The environment (Government, religious oppression, the systems of the world, exc.), and 3. Other people. Joyce Meyer's "Battlefield Of The Mind" is mostly geared at the one maxim each of us have the most control over (You, yourself, your thoughts, and YOU).

Joyce masterfully explains how that old Advesary The Devil works by waiting for the right moment (he`s not only a parasite but he`s also a predator). He waits to see where your weak, when your most vulnerable moment is, and he waits for that moment to attack. The Bible says "Resist the Devil and he will ... Read More

As an elementary school teacher i know that things for children are a good, simple way for people to start learning; even "older" adults. I have been correct. I also like hearing the language from both children and adults as my husband and I will be spending six weeks in italy with families. I plan to pass this along to friends that want to review their past italian language skills. The workbook also provided good review and learning. It's been fun. Ciao.

While I will not deny that this book is as fun of a read as any of the Potter's series, its weaknesses are hard to not recognize next to the other six novels. The novel sticks pretty closely to the formula of the Sorcerer's Stone. While it has all of the workings of a Rowling novel it does have a tendency to fall a little flat. The character of Professor Lockhart, while cute, pales in comparison to the other Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers (I'm excluding Quirrel from the Sorcerer's Stone because he is by far my least favorite). Also, this book seems less interested in furthering the story of Harry Potter unlike the remainder of the series. It is virtually a story within itself and could probably be skipped and the series would still be fully comprehensible. While I still give it four stars because it is an entertaining read, it does ... Read More
