This is by far one of the worst chic-lit books I've read. I loved Devil Wears Prada, I even liked her second book, but this?? There is no way this book would be published without the first two. Bleeh!

I have some facination for diferent cultures and lately I have beeing facinated with oriental culture and traditions. Lisa See has opened my eyes to study farther the Chinesse culture. Americans love beauty and fiction, its easier to read than history. This has help me to understand the beauty of woman sufering and how, even in a culture so diferent friendship can be everything for two woman. They live there lives as all of us, but there friendship is the center of there real love and there only escape from reality. Its amazing. I have read the Peony Pavelion. I was more facinated by Japanesse culture.... but now.. I am all about learning about chinnesse culture...

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time! It is an inspirational love story that made me laugh hysterically and sob uncontrollably. The story is unique and perfectly crafted with witty dialog, unforgettable characters, and a message that will stay with you long after you finish reading. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking a powerful story unlike any other that will completely touch your heart.

Many other reviewers have adeptly described the plot of this book (though none of have given away its deep, dark secrets - thanks so much), so I won't spend time there.

If you've ever wanted to read a book where Jane Eyre meets the heroine from Rebecca in a vaguely Faulkner-Dickens-esque novel, than this book is just the thing for you!

Stunning language, profound character development, and of course a little mystery to grab hold and refuse to let you go, even once the last page is read.

I have but one complaint - when can we expect the a new book from Setterfield?

ENJOY - it's a treasure!

The language is inescapably lush and beautiful. The layers of storytelling are breath-taking. The emotional power is undeniable. This novel has humor, pathos, tragedy and hope. A joy from beginning to end.

I quite liked his previous book, and that was the only reason I bought this one. It drags, and drags. I was quite surprised (maybe i'm naive) at the ending re: the foreigner and his mission. why was this even part of the story? I thought maybe it would take a diffferent direction than what actually happened, otherwise....what was the point? Thought about putting it down several times.....should have.

10.Picture Perfect by: Jodi Picoult

I have read every one of Jodi's books except MERCY. I enjoyed all of her books except this one and Songs of the Humpback Whale. Both of these were her earliest novels, and her writing and stories have come a long way over the years.

This book is confusing & disappointing. The central character, Cassie, is amnesic, yet she does remember some things. It is never clear how the amnesia occurred or how she comes to recover from it. I felt that there was far too much going on in the story: Hollywood life, Indian Mythology, anthropology and then add to that the domestic violence theme. The story goes back and forth between the present, the past, the memories, and leaves readers (at least me) lost in the middle.
