Considering the global political climate and the way policy decisions are created these days (witness the latest "crisis" of the economic variety in the US, for one), this book ought to be required reading for pretty much anyone who can or will at some point cast a vote, think about joining the political process, or breathe some amount of oxygen in the next 40 years. Understanding the underlying principles of who wields and forces agendas and power across the continents seems to be something that everyone ought to be interested in. Klein does a great job of tying some pretty wildly disparate ideas together and makes it not only relevant but essential to comprehending the world that we have wrought before us.

I actually had to get this book for a college class, and while it isn't the kind of book I would choose for myself to read, it has had quite an impact on my way of thinking.

The world is changing, and those who sit with their eyes closed and pretend it's going to go away are in for a rude awakening. Friedman gives many insights into both the benefits and consequences of having a global communication via the internet, the world wide web, and other technological advances. This is just scratching the surface, but to go over everything in the book would take much more than just a few paragraphs.

Overall, I found it tough to get into (maybe because I was required to read it), but once you get into it, it really makes you realize what is going on in the world today and where ... Read More

Only avowed Socialists would find this propaganda book intellectually honest. If you're in college right now you'll probably run into this book in one of your courses; if so you know your professor is a loon and you're better off dropping the course immediately.

I gave this book four stars because it is well written and very readable, but it is really designed for people interested in business and working in corporations; something I did not realize before I started. I feel like the chapters were a little wordy, but the "summaries" at the end of the chapter are nice.

I was mesmerized listening to the author as he was interviewed on PBS with Bill Moyers; I was even more taken by his eloquence and sholarship which plainly expresses his views about our obsession with the military and how to balance our concerns for our protection with our civilian responsibility. He offers 10 clear and excellent suggestions, and note upon note about his resources. His is a historical and personal view.
I recommend it to all.

Always heard about the man and the book but it was difficult trying to follow and understand. Gave up three quarters of the way through. Did learn a little something though.

I read this book in a weekend and couldn't bring myself to put it down. The case made by the author at first seems like fantastic fiction, but alarmingly, as the chapters begin to relate to events closer to current history you begin to feel the rug being pulled out from underneath you.

If I had a criticism it would be that, although the author convincingly shows how elements of Nazism splintered, survived, flourished, made inroads as well as became absorbed by various American institutions; he conflicts with his own argument stating that National Socialism is the danger, while simultaneously, Plutocratic Interests also are the danger. It can be followed that one begat the other, they developed along separate paths and intertwined at some later point. Marrs keeps citing that one is the issue, yet both ... Read More

I cracked this book open with the hopes of getting an insider's view of how corporate manipulation of international loans works. Unfortunately, Perkins reveals little except his takeaway from the experience. The overall feeling of the book was not that he wants to educate us on the machine and how it works but rather issue a mea culpa. It's long on feelings and short on detail. I was looking for something more well researched and detailed like "Blackwater" by Scahill which gives a deep account on how corporate players make money from war and the US government. Unfortunately, Perkins was only able to vaguely confirm what I know to be true, leaving me searching the book racks for someone who can explain the nitty gritty to me. I don't recommend it if you want to answer the "hows" of this really big and complex issue.

This is a very easy read . It is disturbing and seems to be well researched in so far as I have been able (and willing) to verify. I believe this is a must read for every American. It is clear that this book is not irrational bashing of Islam and is generally accurate. No open minded thinking person can simply ignore the problems presented. Mark Steyn is as entertaining as he is provocative.
