Book is strictly for beginners and really does not cover the difference between behavior in previous windows operating systems and Vista. IMHO it should.

Windows Vista "the missing link" is too technical for me. It assumes the reader has complete mastery of Windows XP which I dont have, so I am not using the book much. I needed more of a cookbook!

I'm just about finished my MCITP: DBA Certification on SQL 2005. So far I've done 70-431, and 70-443. I've been working with SQL Server for a number of years now, and I've recently switched over to a full time DBA position. I read this book in about 2 weeks, and did the exam on the third week. I managed to get 910 on the exam, out of 1000. As 700 is the passing grade, I'm more than satisfied with anything over 900. Along with some kind of practice testing, this book is adequate study material. I suggest you have a lab in place so you can do the practices and test out the software for yourself. This is a great reference for WPF--I've been looking for a book like this for quite a while. It's probably not the best learning resource, but once you have a general understanding of WPF, this book can help dig deeper into specific topics, like "How do I change the startup behavior of a WPF apoplication? Can I put my UI files into a DLL, so I can swap the UI?" Chapter 3 helps answer both questions. No hesitation recommending this book to intermediate-level WPF developers.

The 70-620 exam was my first attempt at a microsoft certification. I succedeed, basically only preparing for it with this book. Of course, a PC running windows vista is necessary in order to gain some hands on experience, although not all of the suggested practices (if any) are really necessary. The really odd thing about this preparation kit is the fact that the included exam practice software does not run under vista (in my case, vista ultimate x64). I simply used a virtual machine running xp, but still, this annoyance is quite bizarre, to say the least.

I'm not thrilled with the book version. I still have the DVD version to test which came bundled with my order.

Worked through the first 250 pages and just had to start looking for something else. The idea of illustrations is good but the delivery is not. It's like creating a coloring book for brain surgery - not going to work. Interestingly I always had questions at parts where there was no pencil markup so I could not make sense of things. At page 250, the book is still working on explaining classes and objects. The examples are dry and uninteresting, Very hard to keep focus on them. I found a free ebook on Microsoft site called C# for kids and I was able to get more out of the first 35 pages than from 250 of this book.
