A dense but highly thoughtful analysis of our current problems. Right on target. How the heck did we ever let our country get into such an awful state. This is not only a great study of how we got here, it's a call to arms to change.

This is a wake-up call to all patriotic Americans, which we all owe it to our country to read and heed!

Naomi Wolf lists ten steps to converting a democracy to a fascist dictatorship. In chapter 1, she writes: "Both Italian and German fascisms came to power legally and incrementally in functioning democracies; both used legislation, cultural pressure, and baseless imprisonment and torture to subordinate and control the individual, whether the individual supported the regime inwardly or not. Both were rabidly antidemocratic, not as a side sentiment but as the basis of their ideologies; and yet both aggressively used the law topervert and subvert the law." In chapters 2 thru 11 Wolf describes in detail how the G.W. Bush administration has nearly completed the ten steps:

Of many books I have read on the misdeeds and mistakes of the Bush Administration in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the War on Terror generally, this is the best. Its impact sinks in page after page, horrific detail after horrific detail.

This is a very easy read . It is disturbing and seems to be well researched in so far as I have been able (and willing) to verify. I believe this is a must read for every American. It is clear that this book is not irrational bashing of Islam and is generally accurate. No open minded thinking person can simply ignore the problems presented. Mark Steyn is as entertaining as he is provocative.

The pages are filled with more information than is needed. There are some interesting tidbits, but a lot of it is just biased or unnecesary. Its a struggle to stay interested in. Oh, and on page 97 the word 'Constructed' is spelled wrong. It is definately thoroughly researched, but aparently it includes evey word of that research, no revision to remove any excess fluff.

I wasn't sure that it would be worth my time to read the fourth recent book on atheism. I'm glad I did.

The End of Faith adds many ideas and nuances to the conversation. This is especially true in the last two chapters, which other reviewers have found controversial, rambling, or babble, but I found thought-provoking. Harris acknowledges that there are not many answers. However, just as the last 2000 years have seen astronomy develop from positing the earth being the center of the universe, rational experimentation and knowledge development can develop ethics and spiritualism into sound sciences.

Chapter 6 - A Science of Good and Evil - explores ethics from a starting point of zero faith. After making a case against relativism and pragmatism, Harris explores several ... Read More

8.Pedagogy of the oppressed by: Paulo Freire
1987
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Pedagogy of the oppressed
Like the famous non-sense poem, the book feels like it ought to make sense, but it never does. As you read, you will have the feeling of impending meaning, and that in the next paragraph, or on the next page, or in the next chapter, everything will come together and you will have your moment of clarity. Never happens.

Whatever you think Paulo Freire means, you are wrong.

This is absolutely the best book on basic economic thinking. It is filled with sound logical arguments for free markets. This book should be the starting point for anyone interested in politics and politically economy.

Milton Friedman is "way out there" for many, but his debating skills are solid. I used arguments in this book during debates in grad school and easily hammered classmates who couldn't figure out how to argue against the "green pieces of paper" statement when they were arguing on how the U.S. should eliminate our trade deficit.

In this book Dr. Friedman will teach you what free market capitalism is and is not. He will demonstrate how government regulation failures lead to the Great Depression and how monetary shocks (kicked off by the government yet again) created problems ... Read More

This book opened my eyes as to the business of this current war. However; given what has transpired with the global economy in just the past couple of weeks, I would like to see a revised, updated book that accounts for what influence, if any, the war with Iraq has played with the most current events.
