This was the first book I have read by Jamie Lee Curtis, but it won't be the last. I am now interested. My son (4) and I chose this book from the library and now we own it. It is one of his favorites and we read it at least once a week. My 8 month old loves the pictures and stays put while we read this one. It has a lyrical flow. My main attractions to this book are of course, the words and the concepts it teaches. As a special education teacher, I am all about using a better vocabulary in everyday conversation, something my mother passed down to me. I use these words with my children and incorporate their meanings everyday. It is great to have a fun way to solidify those same values in a book.

I bought this book for my daughter - in paperback, hardback, coloring book, etc.! This was her all-time favorite book growing up and now I'm buying it for her newborn son! That makes me really think this is a book "for generations".

Briefly, the story revolves around Max, a young boy who behaves naughtily and is sent to bed without supper. In his room, he is transported to another world "where the wild things are" where he is made king of the wild things. After having his fill of leading the wild things, he returns to his room to find his supper left on his dresser. This story strikes an interesting balance between the real world of Max and his family and Max's dream world "where the wild things are". Whereas in the former world his actions are seen as naughty and are decried, the dream world provides Max not only with the ability to act in the way he wants but also to have those actions sanctioned and praised by those around him. I ordered a couple of books and this one is her favorite!!! It is the only one she really pay attesntion to and she doesn't try and eat it!! 5 stars!!

This is a great version of the classic. Our 1-year old loves it, and it's hard to destroy.

We love the "If You Give..." books at our house. Our 2 1/2 year old will sit through "Mouse Cookies & More" which has "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", "If You Give a Pig a Pancake", "If You Give a Moose a Muffin" & "If You Take a Mouse to School" all in one, and then she'll want to read it all over again. We were very excited to get a new "If You Give..." book, especially one about a cat (our daughter's favorite animal); but I found this story to be less charming than the others. Some of the transitions felt forced; for example, Cat goes to the gym and then suddenly wants to go to the park - I didn't get the connection so the book just didn't flow as well as the others I've read. There are days when I am just thoroughly annoyed by this book. And yet it remains a classic, and I grudgingly agree. How can anyone not love the awesome repetitive rhymes and varying colors and animals? And how can you not get chills at how these animals are all staring at each other? The original of interactive books and still probably the best.

I grew up with this story. It is great for young children. But if the child is over the Sesame Street age then it's too late. The illustrations are cute and fun. The only downside is that young children might like it too much and want it read all the time contributing to possible eating disorders.

This book made the hackles on my neck stand straight up. Absolutely creepy and odd. It is one thing to rock your sleeping baby, quite another to sneak in your grown sons house (with a ladder no less), and rock him in his bed. This book shows the exact opposite of how to be a healthy parent. Cut the creepy apron strings. DO NOT BUY !!!
