When I was a kid, I used to read lot of Jules Verne. In those days I couldn't read neither English, nor French so I was destined to use translations which were few and of varying quality. Nevertheless, I think I'll always remember captain Nemo and his mysterious ship, his exile on the island and his death. Stories of Jules Verne always stirred my fantasy, and I guess that he should be blamed, together with Poe and Tolkien, for me entering the world of SF&F and staying there for a long time. I teach 5th grade and my students are in love with these books as well as The Periodic Table: Elements with Style. It makes it easy for them to understand. They borrow the books from me daily and it really triggers an interest in science for them. These books have been so successful in my classroom I pre-ordered the biology version coming out in September. I can't say enough good things about it/them.

At first, when I saw this book, I thought it would be boring and incomprehensible. I was very wrong and it turned out to be a very interesting and dramatic book with a dark view of what the world was turning into. The Time Traveler goes into thousands of years into the future and meets 2 races, the eloi and the morlocks. The book wasn't very hard to read, contrary to what some people said, and I'm only 12. The ending was kind of sad and bleak, but other than that this book is fantastic! I would recommend it for more older kids though.

My daughters and I really enjoyed listening to this classic literature in long car rides. The story combined with the enchanting music made it all the more endearing.

Okay, I cannot figure out why I bothered to buy this book in the first place. Despite the fact that I live in Utah and have not spent a heck of a lot of time near the ocean, I have a weird fear of sharks.But guess what? Plenty of other people find them plenty cool! And as I read this introductory text to the amazing world of sharks I found myself grudgingly appreciating their incredible diversity and ability to survive. Truly they are very cool animals and while I will never love them I did appreciate what this book taught. And that means great text, lots of incredible, beautiful, and terrifying photos, and neat, did-you-know style facts.Shark lovers will love this quick read and those delighting in information will also get something out of it.

This book is great to use in a center when teaching a unit on landforms and is also great for those kids who are aching to know more about the science rhelm of volcanoes. It's age appropriate and children at the Step 4 reading level will be challenged enough with it. :)

This is yet another great DK Reader. It has very intersting information on volcano's (a very intersting subject). Great for Level 2 readers to read alone, or for you to read with your 3-5 year old. My son & I enjoy reading it together and looking at the pictures. Who knew the land on the sides of volcano's was great for growing crops!!

We purchased this book for our 6-year-old who has recently taken an interest in NASCAR. He is able to read most of it himself, but it is not so watered-down as to be dull--it has quite a bit of good information. The little trophy stickers inside are cute--they get one each time they read the book, but the motivation to read it really comes from the fact that it is interesting!

I wanted something relevant that students could work on while I was working with small groups - without having to spend a lot of time on my part organizing. This works well. It was time consuming at first to set up the folders (I laminated), but now that it is done there is very little time on my part required. I teach 4th grade and plan on getting the centers for 4th - 5th next year and starting students on 3-4 at the beginning of the year and switching to 4-5 during the 2nd semester. Now I want to try the one for science and the one for geography.
