Volunteer committees at the Project Management Institute (PMI) created this guide to the processes involved in managing projects. Communication among clients, the project team and vendors is crucial to project management, so the book establishes a common vocabulary and a standard way of discussing a project. The book focuses on going from step to step with reliable coordination and smooth communication. Newcomers will find it helpful as they become conversant in the way professionals view and discuss project management. And, given that this is a standard work in the field, professionals are likely to regard it already as a reliable reference, including the useful process checklist. getAbstract applauds this manual's solid utility for its targeted audience. It is even quite readable, though ... Read More

I am very happy with this book. I had registered for a review course ($995), but the course was canceled due to low enrollment. I considered enrolling for another review course, but I thought I would give self-study a shot first.I read the PMBOK and it seemed as though I was reading a foreign language. This book was the only source I used other than the initial read of the PMBOK. I think I was more confused after that, but this book really helped. It wasn't an overly dry read, and it really seemed to key in on important issues that you face on the test. As the name states, I did pass the test on the first try, using only this book, and I saved $995 off the price of the review course I had registered for! I am so glad the course was canceled! I would highly recommend it if you have ... Read More

I read this book with great interest because of three reasons: 1. It had a wide variety of reviews form one star to five star, (mostly five stars); 2. It is continually in the top ten ranking for sales in project management books by Amazon; 3. I was intrigued by the title that claims to simplify a task as complex as project management to one page.

My bottom line is that this is a valuable book and I rate it as five stars.

However it is not for everyone. One reviewer writes on Amazon.com "I've worked for 2 Fortune 10 companies and this particular "one page" would have never been accepted at either company. My projects were too complex to fit the WBS/tasks onto one page." I agree whole heartedly with this statement. However, most people do not work for Fortune 10 companies ... Read More

One of the best reference books I have ever read (and I have read a lot of them). The authors take you 'step by step' through every critical feature in MS Project. The procedures are very straightforward; there is virtually no way to screw up their instructions. Even if you know nothing about project management, you will have no trouble with this book. In fact, this book will teach you more than how to use MS Project, it will also teach you about project management. I really can't say enough positive things about this book.

My only small criticism is that many of the figures are not labeled. I found myself labeling some of the more ambiguous figures myself.

Nonetheless, I still have no trouble giving this book 5 stars.

I had purchased this textbook for a on-line class in Project Management.
The textbook The Fast Forward MBA turned out to be a great investment for me. The textbook is easy to read and understand concepts. It provide great detail of follow along illustration that help with the read the text. I would strongly recommend the textbook for anyone but it is a must for beginniners interesting in project management and techniques used to manage the project life from begiingn to end, helpful in understanding how to initiate a project, and great clear definition of terminology.

This is a great book like most Dummies books. I'm involved in a Strategy Planning process with a not for profit organization as a volunteer and a little over my head so it really helps.
I would recommend it to everyone who is getting into a project like ours.

I received the book this Monday morning. And had read it through by Tuesday evening... It is brilliant! Crisp clear instruction, a great balance between explaining background and step-by-step showing how to do it. The very personal language also makes it easy to read and fun.

What I think I like best is the down to earth "I have done this myself" approach. What I mean is, one can really relate to the reasoning and it is based on reality not on fancy theory on how things should be witch makes it very trustworthy. Anyone can start using it straight away.

I didn't work my way through each and every exercise but a lot of them and based on my experience of SharePoint the rest looks similarly easy to complete. It'll be the x-mas gift from my company to a number of key customers and contacts. ... Read More
