The book's title is provocative on purpose, but Ferriss delivers excellent ideas about life and work. You don't have to agree with everything he says, and you don't have to implement all his suggestions to benefit. For me, the point of the book is to look at your work differently. When you do that, you can make different decisions that will benefit you, as opposed to the instinctive "work, get promoted, retire" plan.

Examples: 1. I was trying to get a management job, to get more money and more power in my company. Now I realize that job would decrease my hourly pay and limit my ability to enjoy life. 2. I want to move to a different city, but fear moving my family, cutting roots, only to get to the new place and realize it was a mistake. Now I'm planning to rent a house in the ... Read More

I was disappointed with this product. The "kit" consists of the book and a CD. I was familar with the book, so that was no surprise. But I expected some type of video or annimation on the CD. Instead, it was mainly just a screen saver and some type of game that was not very interesting.

[As a corporate human resources director, I often work on developing the latent talents and skills of various managers. Years ago, I taught a class where I had each participant to look into a hand-held mirror and ask the question, "Would you want to work for this person?"

This book takes this exercise to a completely different level. To discover your own inner strengths (and weakness) ensures that you will become the very best manager possible. As a fan of First, Break All the Rules, I was very satisfied that this follow-up was as timely and useful as the first book. I highly recommend you purchase a copy of this book for yourself and for all of your managers. Michael L. Gooch, SPHR Author of

The book provides advice on how to manage your behavior while building your career in the corporate or business worlds. The book title is a reminder that the behavior that lead you to climb the corporate ladder can at some point be against you.

The book invites you to explore and assess your habits and get feedback from your colleagues at different levels. This will give you a reality check on things that you may be failing and will lead you to fail. The list of twenty bad habitsis a starting point to assess yourself and start re-inventing your self.

Highly recommended book to assess individuals building their professional careers and leadership skills.

I am in the 1st 1/2 of the book[cd]. Enjoying it. Does the book address the fact Bush the 2nd was the 1st MBA prez and the 1st HARVARD MBA prez?? Just wondering what the B school thought of that!! Hard to live THAT one down.

I went to a state college, received an undergrad MS finance degree. My finance prof there was DR PEARSON HUNT. Yrs B4 he had INVENTED the "cash flow statement" when he taught at the B school. I was lucky he had retired from the B school, and then decided to teach at my state school. He was wonderful and I thank him every day!!

All my business undergrad courses used the Harvard MBA case study model. Remember this was a STATE school, undergrad degree. It was great, AND I learned alot.

Got my MBA from Babson a wonderful small school in Ma. ... Read More

This is a great book. It is easy to read and held my interest. Many of the principles included are those we already know, but have never seen them explained or really examined them ... Although it is not a Christian book, I found this book to be full of truth.

I think I have an idea of what the writer is trying to accomplish but his book could have been simpler and more concise. I found the book difficult to apprehend for people frustrated in life and unsure of what to do next. I'd like to give this warning...if you aren't inclined towards religion you will have problems with this book because the author uses God as an affirmative defense for the outcome of every decision the reader has to make. I believe in God but I also believe in free will and that God does not micro-manage our life styles. That God is concerned in long term consequences resulting from poor planning or the lack of it but not necessarily in every decision we have to make. That being said if you are already aware of the passion that drives you but aren't quite sure how to bring it to fruition there ... Read More

Don't get me wrong, this book is founded on smart advice. Its main morals are the following:
- Don't believe what you see in the media; most millionaires don't live extravagant, consumption-driven lifestyles. The pursuit of status is stratospherically expensive, and chances are that guy you see pulling out of the Super-Size McMansion in his Benz is a hardcore spender with above-average income but little accumulated wealth.
- The rich get rich by spending prudently (no $5,000 watches or $50,000 cars) and investing wisely. No matter your income, live below your means.
- If you want your kids to learn the lessons of financial independence, avoid giving them cash handouts, which they'll come to expect all their lives and will weaken them mentally. Just invest a crapload in their education and leave ... Read More

"Disrupting Class" is a very interesting read for people interested in improving education here in the U.S. Dr. Christensen argues that the main problem with traditional schools is that they cannot provide individualized instruction that best meets each student's needs. As a home educator, I couldn't agree with him more. He sees computer-based learning as a "disruptive innovation" that will solve the problem of how to provide this type of "student-centric" learning to the masses (since not everyone can homeschool or hire a tutor for their offspring).

Dr. Christensen revisits the argument from his earlier book "The Innovator's Dilemma" that "disruptive innovations" don't initially compete directly against the current market leader's product but rather against nonconsumption. For example, in the '70's Digital ... Read More
