Stephenie Meyer never disapoints. I thought The Host was a fantastic read. I was a little nervous at first, since The Twilight series is one of my all time favorites and how can one top that. I am well over the "Young Adult" reader and I was pleasantly suprised. It was a little confusing at first, but give it a chance. It was terrific. I do hope that Stephenie makes The Host into a series, you cannot help but fall in love with this book too!!

I bought this product for my husband who treats his books like golden treasures. In two weeks time the print was smearing and the binding was breaking allowing whole sections of pages to fall out of the book. The manufacturing of this product is the shoddiest I've ever seen. I plan on returning this printing and waiting for the next one which I hope will be better.
As for the content, well everyone who has played the editions previous to this will have an opinion about it. I haven't formed mine yet, but it seems like it will be more manageable than 3.5 which was just too complicated for people who also have lives outside of gaming. I don't recommend beginners start with this edition, however, unless there are old-timers to help them sort out the rules as some things are esoteric enough to ... Read More

I don't think that I have ever read such a unique book. The Road is an amazing book that keeps you turning the pages without being a thriller or a mystery. It is also fun to analyze. I had read only two pages when I realized that this is one of those books that you have to read with a pencil in your hand. There are so many sentences to underline, words to circle, and places to add your own thoughts into the margines.

I say this because that's the only thing good about the 4th edition. The new rules are literally computer RPGs in table top form, and the computer game they got it from wasn't all that good.

The races are akward (dragonborn), redundant (eladrin) and lacking (Where are the gnomes? The asimar?). Character classes are flavorless (or should I say "balanced") losing everything that made them a fighter, cleric, wizard, and thief. Now they are all the same "thing" just with different names with similar powers and abilities.

Did they streamline the rules at least one may ask? Well of course they did! They streamlined it to the point that it's no different from an oversimplified table top wargame, eliminating any room for characterization or customization! D & D is now a very ... Read More

I borrowed a copy of this and the PHB from someone and read the pair of them from cover to cover just so I could say that I had read them. I've got all the 3rd edition books (some of which I wish I hadn't bought). Even if I had liked what I read in 4e I wouldn't drop 3.5 to play it simply because, for me and my group, 3.5 isn't broken and we've invested too much and effort into it to drop it for another system. 4e is, as many here have said, Wizards' desperate attempt to appeal to all those kiddies who'd rather be playing WoW or some other MMORG. They're clever buggers though. They raped an rpg called Earthdawn for 3rd edition, why not do the same to the most popular video game of the day. Im sure it'll work for them on the money side. It made them rich with 3.5. Im wondering what Wrath of the Lich King will ... Read More

Without comparing this book to its previous editions as many reviewers have done, I'm going to review it based on its own merits.

The art, for the most part, is pretty good....and it's everywhere. There is no lack of visual inspiration to stoke the imagination. There are a few pieces that seem particularly appropriate for a "Monster" Manual...in the first few pages are some truly horrific-looking beasties, and there are more than a couple illustrations that simply scream "I WANT TO DEVOUR YOUR SOUL."

The layout is good, with monsters laid out in alphabetical order. There are several different indexes in the back, allowing players to look up monsters by level, by name, etc. Very handy for DMs who're setting up encounters. Also, it's easy to locate the quirkier parts of the book, like the optional ... Read More

I am sad to say I had not read this book till age 27. What was wrong with my high school? No Bell Jar, no 451?

*Anyway* fascinating read and crazy to think that books may be obsolete in the future, quite sad, since I'm an avid reader. The premise of the story is about a fireman who knows nothing else but his job and what life is like now, until he meets a young "strange" girl who discusses actual real life with him. After that, Montag starts to wonder things outside the realm of what he always knew and starts to question his job and the purpose of burning books. He ends up rebelling and fighting for the cause.

If you liked 1984, this book is similar is some aspects (to me at least). The sad bleak future that these authors dreamed up with the loss of individualism and the control of telescreens/televisions ... Read More

*possible spoilers*

OKay so I just finished reading Lover Enshrined and I have to say i thought it was much better than the stories about Butch and V. But honestly, the description of the book is different than the actual book. Now Phury has a wizard in his head, and this wizard tells him how worthless he is....etc. Okay weird.... Then there is only (maybe) about 100 pages even devoted to Phury and Cormia's relationship, if you even want to call it that. The book was good only because it was mostly about the other characters'...more or less. I was happy to learn more about John Matthew....and then Tohr came back.....so that is really cool. But honestly this book is not romance, and shouldn't be titled as such. I know other people have said this series is now Urban fanasty???? idk, but i will admitt that the other characters' ... I have up till this book enjoyed all the others in the series very much but this one seems more like filler than a fourth. Pretty much all the themes carry over and are repeated over and over.

I agree with some other posts that making this series either 3 or at the most 4 books may have helped so we would not have so much of the same over and over. I am honestly no longer looking forward to the last two as I am not looking forward to another explination on how he doesnt want to be the hero.

Still for a fan of the series its a good book to pickup for a quiet afternoon as its a fast read due to its nature.
