Book felt very choppy...not a good flow and nothing of great substance. It's an entertaining read if you don't like the Cowboys (I'm an Eagles' fan...I know, it's sad). So, I would just stick with Jeff's articles on ESPN. They are more concise and hard hitting.

I had the great pleasure of hearing WW Hayes speak at my high school some 40 years ago. I expected to be dazzled with football talk, but to my surprise, Woody only mentioned football as an afterthought, he was spellbinding in describing the wonders and advantages of a college degree.

Lou Holtz can spend hours telling Woody stories, as could Bo. Both men are/were much better men for having known him, as are almost every player ever to have played for either man.

A great story set in difficult times, and artfully told by a very talented author. I read many books, and this is the first I have felt obligated to share my enthusiasm.

Should be on every American's Christmas list!

Fox news would give this book a good review, as it presents their darling little conservative housewife governor in a good light! Sarah Palin has become nothing but a mascot and a puppet to the conservative party, complete with quaint little catch phrases. I don't know how anyone would be interested enough in this woman to write a book about her. I tried to donate the book, but no one wanted it, so I used my copy to line my rat cage.

Josh Hamilton, through his performance in the 2008 baseball season, was given the platform, to be able to have a book published about his life. The book detailed much about his drug use and stays at treatment facilities. I was impressed by the story of his resilience and the people who stood by him, especially his grandmother and father-in-law. His story also shows that even though his parents supported him and traveled with him during his first two years, one bad decision can snowball into many more poor ones. This is a great book for baseball fans or those in recovery from drug addiction.

I've read many, many wrestling books over the years, but not any of them, including Mick Foley, can compare to the heartfelt drama, drawbacks, and success of professional wrestling through the eyes of one of it's finest talents to ever don the tights.

Bret's book is like none I've ever read. It is 100% honest. The difficulties of the industry, the lies, the backstabbing, and the affairs are just part of the story. Incredible family issues, death, drugs, steriods, and alcohol abuse all play a major role in this story. Incredibly written from tapes that Bret kept during his career, this is the most honest and riveting read on the subject of wrestling I've ever laid my eyes on.

You simply cannot purchase a better book on wrestling, period...

When the first page of the first chapter of a book takes the reader on a trip to *DEATH-ROW-AT-ANGOLA-STATE-PRISON-IN-LOUISIANA* you can be sure you're not at the beginning of a typical sports book! The author Warrick Dunn is assuredly a star football player in the NFL... and a former college All-American at Florida State University... and a first round draft choice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers... and the twenty-second player in NFL history to rush for ten-thousand-yards in his career... and the owner of many more enviable statistics...

**BUT**... more than anything else in the world... Warrick is his Mother's son... and there is nothing in his lifetime that he's prouder of! Warrick's Mother was much more than a Mother to him... they were also best friends. Part of the dedication in the front of the book is to his Mom and other ... Read More

I enjoyed the actual book much more than the audiobook, mainly because Krakauer reads the text so fast that he takes a lot of the emotion out of the story.

Reading the jacket blurb, one would think that The Blind Side is the football version of Moneyball - full of insights into a new approach to running a football team. And there is a little of that, as Michael Lewis chronicles the emergence of the left tackle as a position of critical importance. I liked this part of the book, even if it ran on too long and was much too repetitive. Ultimately, this book was the story of one talented boy who rose above a life of poverty and neglect, and with the help of many, got himself an education and a chance to play football at the top level. 80% of this book is a Michael Oher bio, and a good one. While the author tried to make this about big issues in football and society, the book is at its best just telling Oher's story. In spite of a number of flaws, this was a biography that I did enjoy, and I learned ... Read More

I gave the book three stars because I expected a little more than a glossy coffee table book. The book has enough substance and divulges enough about Laird and his worldview that it was an average read. However, I doubt I will ever read this book again which would merit a four or five star rating but if you are a Laird fan, probably a must have for you.
