We are so luckly that Barack Obama cares enough about this country to run for President. After reading this book it is easy to see why he is so popular today. To me, his message is simple. America should be the envy of the world and lead by example. It's time to practice what we preach.

This is an odd book. I must say at the start that I intend to vote for McCain, but that I encouraged my wife (the Democrat in the family) to vote for Obama, because frankly among the Democrat candidates he's the one I thought the best of. Frankly, I have to say that this book, while well-written, didn't make me like him any better: if anything, it made me like him less.

As an aside, I should address one issue to start: the question of whether he actually wrote the book, or someone else did. One conservative blogger has been pushing the idea, based on "textual analysis", that Bill Ayers (the "old man" from Obama's neighborhood who helped found the Weathermen and used to blow stuff up) was the ghostwriter. I suppose that's possible, but the mere fact that Obama hadn't written anything ... Read More

I'm only about halfway through with it and I like it so far. This woman should never have sold out her values to run with John McLiberal. Hopefully she will mold him more than he molds her.

As is evident from the other reviews here on Amazon, this book provides a history of Vice President Cheney's vice presidency into the start of 2008. Gellman has excellent sources, and was therefore able to get impressive detail of some events not previously told - - most notably the Alberto Gonzalez hospital bed confrontation over domestic surveillance.

The overarching theme of the book is that Cheney was too clever by half. He was too uncompromising, or "principled," early on, and smart enough to get what he wanted much of the time. As a result, Cheney created a backlash against himself. By 2008, he was worse off than he would have been had he been more compromising early on. That theme emerges only gradually, however, and I would have liked to see it presented more forcefully throughout the ... Read More

There is one simple playbook for election in America: give the worthless and excuse for being lazy and unproductive and then promise to use the strength of the government to take "back" what the useless were "supposed" to have received. FDR ushered in the Great Vacation when he promised something for nothing to these people and now they act like the country was founded on having the wealthy supporting the worthless.

To you who are so quick to excuse Ayers, let's see you take that same stand when Charles Manson is up for parole (he is in three years). Then I want to hear you say "Hey, it was back in the 60's! He's not dangerous anymore. He was just voicing his anger at being repressed by the government. He's respectable now." And I dare you Ayers-sympathizers to formally come out and admit that you ... 7.Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by: Doris Kearns Goodwin
October 25, 2005
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln
This book should be required reading for every US Citizen. It combines together information on not just Lincoln, but his 4 main rivals, the process by which he came to be elected, the inner workings of his White House, the dynamics going on in every day life in the United States during that period and the overall fight to abolish slavery during that time -- all packaged in a wonderfully easy to read book. I learned more by reading this one book than I did in all of my high school and college history classes combined. I suspect you will too. Happy reading....

Ayaan Hirsi Ali takes the reader on a journey. A journey of discovery from obscurity to fame, from the muslim brotherhood to atheism, from the backbreaking yokes of third world tribalism and feudalism to Western philosophy and the Enlightenment. Ms. Ali did not intend for this to happen. It all happened TO her, and she lays out her case for turning her back on her family, her cultural heritage and her religion in a brutally honest, often heart-wrenching manner. If the West has any doubts about what the leaders of the Islamic world are up to, they should be put to rest after reading this book. Islam is not a curious group of friendly, smiling, quaintly dressed members of the local mosque just down the block. It is an insidious disease that is slowly spreading throughout the world. Just as any dictatorial regime will ... Read More

Excellent book by John McCain. Gave an insight into the "man" John McCain. Brought back fond memories of my life in the military, as I am US Army Retired. Was in audience with Admiral McCain when he was CINCPAC, and his son was a POW in Hanoi.

Based on all the glowing reviews, I was expecting a fascinating read. But this book was anything but exciting. I found it really hard to get into the story. About halfway through, I finally gave up and just skimmed the rest of the book. This reads more like a history book than a biography. The author goes into a lot of detail, but she fails to get into Georgiana's head. I'm giving this 3 stars because the author did an incredible amount of research. But it's too bad her writing style is so dull. At the end, I couldn't understand why this book was written or why Georgiana was supposedly such an intriguing person. Hopefully, the movie does a better job of making Georgiana seem like a real person.
