My wife and I listened to the cassette on an auto trip to Oregon to visit with our grandsons. Although we had read the book before, the audio tapes made the miles fly by thanks to Sissy Spacek.

Walking through middle school corridors, I'd spy kids in the grade above mine carrying John Steinbeck's "The Pearl" and think them lucky. Judging from the cover it was some kind of sea adventure, probably involving sharks and Jacqueline Bisset. This was back in the 1970s, and I was obviously confused. Flash forward to the present. Feeling nostalgic, I decide to take the book on after years of wondering. It was certainly short, and Steinbeck is a classic writer, so it seemed a good idea. This book provided my son with the hope and steps he needed to be healed of OCD. We read others, but it was simple enough for this 6th grader to understand with the consistant help of his parents. We practiced each step until there were no more symptoms. Our healthy, bright, social boy was back. It took several months. We were very thankful.

From the very first page I was hooked. I had never read any of Dean Koontz's books before but,for some reason this book caught my attention. The pace of this book didn't slow down for a moment. I really enjoyed how the author took special care in making sure that the reader understood the emotions each of the main characters were feeling. In return, I was able to better connect with each character on a different level, allowing me to enjoy the book even more. This book isn't hard to follow and throughout the whole book from beginning to end you keep asking yourself the same question. What in the world is going on here? I could not put this book down nor did I want to in the end so for this I say BRAVO to Dean Koontz.

If you love archaeology and the wild west do yourself a favor and read this book. Packed to the brim with suspense and excitement I'd say this book falls in the top 3 of best novels by P&C.

I really didn't care for the first book in this trilogy, but I was encouraged to read the sequel by several fans of the series... GOOD CALL! Immediately, I was amazed at the difference in these two books... Where as the first book seemed to be just one huge relentless spanking with no real character development or story, this book truly developed each main character by explaining events from their perspective AND included a rather interesting story line! Although I had never given much thought to what a BDSM relationship must be like, Rice's descriptions were mind blowing! This book begins a little fuzzy, but by the end of the first few pages the explanation for the boys' current situation is revealed: A plane carrying many British schoolboys crashed on a tropical island, and only some amount of them survive. There are no adults. Sounds like your typical survival-on-a-desert-island beginning, right? In a way, it is. For the most part, this book details the boys' struggle to survive under the leadership of Ralph and his intelligent friend Piggy. Ralph attempts to lead the boys under a sort of democratic establishment, and it works, for a while. But the "model boy" of the school, Jack Merridrew, gains a crazed obsession with hunting. Is there really a James Patterson, or was he created by a computer too? "Sail" reads like a comic book. It is totally predictable. I can only imagine how this "book" was created. It appears to me that someone sat down at a computer with a grab bag of potential scripted happenings, pulled up a variety of them, and then wrote a "story" transitioning from one scripted event to another, sort of like panels in a comic strip. Sad to say, it appears Little, Brown and Company has "sold their soul," and is willing to crank out garbage to take advantage of a popular name. The story line is so trite! Don't waste your money on this bad joke of a book. Patterson must laugh all the way to the bank, assuming that there really is a Patterson!
