1.The Great Bridge by: David mccullough

Books : The Great Bridge
I have read all of David McCullough's books since May of 2008. They are all true masterpieces. The Great Bridge, along with Truman, are stand outs - but none disappoint! I visited the Brooklyn Bridge after reading this book and actualy saw the expanse for the first time. Before it was just a bridge. After reading the book it became alive with the story of the great(and not so great)people of the times. McCullough is an artist as well as a writer.

I ordered this book after reading the reviews that were mostly positive. When the book arrived I was surprise to find that it has been update in 2008 by Seth Leitman. The reviews I read suggested that some of the information in this book was dated. Please be informed that this book is up to date.
This is a very good book with the right information to get the job done right. The math helps you to understand the reasons for the different options and decision that need to be made, but if you do not need that form of understanding the book gives a summary after each section of the best chooses without having to understand the math.

This is a great book for kids who love trains! My younger four year old sons love reading it with me and my older six year old son likes looking through it independently. The pictures (photos) are interesting and there is great information all through the pages.

The pictures are great and the wording is easy and accurate. My son just turned 3 and he enjoys it but we both would have liked more detailed explanations of how the trains work and what the different parts are called. Overall, a good choice for little train-lovers just starting out.

6.Terrific Trains (Amazing Machines) by: Tony Mitton

Books : Terrific Trains (Amazing Machines)
My 2 year old loves this book!! He loves trains and this book is so catchy and cute that my son has parts memorized. He can almost read it back to me! This book also helped my son understand some different features like the signals, switches, tunnels, coach cars, and different features that make up a train. If your child loves trains, then this will further your young ones knowledge to some extent.

I built 4 L-Girder tables using solely this book. Never done wood work before. If i can do it using this book, then anybody can. I think i would have given the book a full 5 stars if the examples had of been a little clearer. I think there is room for improvement in the layout of the book. It's layout is a little outdated. All in all though - a must have for building model railroad tables.

I have several copies of this book in my library so I can always have one at hand. Some of them have worn out covers because I refer to them so often. It is loaded with ideas for designing ones own track plans. There are layouts for shelves, the ubiquitous 4x8 sheet of plywood, shelf around the room, fill the room, and monster unlimited space layouts. I agree with earlier reviewers that it is a must-have for anyone serious about model railroading. Some regard the actual plans in this book as "old school". This might be true, but the ideas are still there and are timeless. In contrast for "new school" plans one could also consider the excellent books by Iain Rice.

Don't expect it to contain plans that will be a one-one match with sectional toy-train tracks, it was written when people laid their ... Read More

I purchased this book and also the Bicycle Builder's Bonanza by the same author because I wanted ideas on how to build my own recumbent bike or trike. The plans and details are awesome, and Brad often explains why certain design decisions were made. I think the best thing about the book is that it inspires me to go out and build something. My mind is already cranking on how to modify the designs presented in the book. Now, my only problem is deciding between the Delta Wolf and the Street Fox!
