Books : Trunk Music (Harry Bosch)
Another bad cop killing his lovers spouse with the spouse orchestrating from the sidelines. A plot Connelly has used more than once.

In all, if you look at it stand alone from the others in the series, it is well done. Good characterizations, good dialogue, but well worn plot.

It is readable, however.

3.Soul Music by: Terry Pratchett

Books : Soul Music
Imp (Bud as in plants in Springtime) Y Celyn (Of the Holly trees) makes music his life (without understanding all the implications) and organizes a band with a troll, a dwarf, and briefly an orangutan; Death's grandaughter Susan considers the consequences of silliness, Death expresses gratitude with a rose in his teeth, a big hearing-impaired spotted cat arranges for a singer to appear with just one glove, the neighborhood witch arrangements are explained, a felonious monk's musical talent is discussed, and music-with-rocks-in is introduced.

One of the absolute best of Pratchett, and definately the best of the thread about Death. There are more rock and roll references per page than any other book in history, and more laughs than a rational man can deal with (I had no problem...) ... Read More

I picked up this book because I'm a volunteer at the cemetery where Ms. Hepburn is buried. I felt like I wanted to know more about her, and also about her family, since they are all buried there. I enjoyed the first couple of chapters the most, because they take place in Hartford, and getting a "look" at the town as it was before highways, when you could tie a sled to the back of a car and be pulled down Sigourney Street. Most of the book is devoted to her career. I'd say that she was mostly likeable, and had many interesting friends. The book was a very quick read, with lots of photographs.

6.Miles: The Autobiography by: Miles Davis, Quincy Troupe

Books : Miles: The Autobiography
Some truly hilarious adventures in this book, man! As you might imagine, Miles lived a quite exciting life, one we mere mortals shall only dream about. Whether banging high-priced prostitutes in 5-star hotels, playing w/ Parker, Coltrane, Gillespie in Harlem, or being so coked-up he turned to the old lady standing next to him in the elevator & said 'What're you doing in my car, bitch?' then slapped her in the face, getting him a couple days in Bellevue.
Miles also describes the 2 years he spent virtually alone, no visitors, in his Manhattan apartment, snorting coke & not picking up the trumpet once - so he says.
Also some vivid recollections of police beatings, overt racism, shameful discrimination - basically being a black guy in America at the time & taking heat for it. Many ... Read More

Books : Ten Things I Wish I'd Known Before I Went Out into the Real World
This book talks about the problems and difficulties you face when you hit adulthood. It also tells you things that might help you get through it all.

I liked this book for several reasons. I liked it because I thought it was very educating. Also because I believe this book can help people start preparing for their future. Ten Things I Wish I'd Known-Before I Went Out into the Real World is a book that I think can help people on their way and to understand the point or meaning of life.

In the end it's a very good book altogether and I recommend it to anyone and everyone who has troubles with preparing their future

Books : The Lessons of History
I've listened to most of the Durant's 10,000 page Story of Civilization. When I came across this little gem, I was very pleased. To think that they could take all of those decades of research and reflection and condense them into about 100 pages is mighty impressive. It's also mighty valuable for us all as we go through the beginning of a new millenium. They give well-reasoned and well-supported arguments for their conclusions about the lessons we learn by studying history. They also have a charming sense of humor that comes out well here as well as in the larger works.

I've listened to this several times on the library's copy and finally decided to have my own so that I could listen easily from time to time. It's good to be reminded of such valuable lessons.

We own this cd and, well, one can hardly comment on the music without 1st having experienced working with the Suzuki method of helping their child learn to play an instrument and read music.
The cd is most useful and my child learned very quickly by listening to this cd. There are other versions of the Suzuki books on cd and when your child advances you can see and hear the differences of each. The way your child plays, once having worked long enough, can reflect the style in which the artist plays. My son took to playing violin very quickly. And could choose which cd he wanted by book 3.
He still listens to the old cd,s (he added the music to his ipod, btw) for refreshing his memory and improving his critique of music. He is 16 and loves all music.
If you are considering this method for ... Read More
