This is a great book. Covers how to put together a perfect exposure very well. Are you tired of always struggling becuase there just wasn't enough light in that shot? You just had a bit too much blur then you wanted? You just don't understand how shutter speed, film speed and aperature work together and which one should be modified for this particular shot? Then read this book and have fun shooting in manual mode from now on and stop hoping that auto mode will get the picture right. :)

I purchased this book as a Christmas gift for my Montana farmer friends. I know they will love it. Since it arrived at my home - I think I must classify it as used by the time they receive it later this month. I can't put it down. The photos are heart stopping - gorgeous - and moving!!! We spend a week "at the farm" every year and it is both a sobering and wonderful experience - there is NO ONE who works harder than our farmers. Send this on to your farmer freinds and/or put it on your coffee table with a big sign that says, "support your local farmers."

The book was well worth the purchase, nice cover and great photos. What I would like more is a book with photos of mainly President Elect Obama and his family but I'll be patient because I know it is forthcoming.

The concept, and the whole idea of honoring wisdom is great. And there are some wonderful pearls that come out of it. But look who was chosen. With few exceptions they have to be photogenic and look the part of a wise elder. They are famous, accomplished people. So is it surprising how many references there are to taking chances, changing the world, etc? If they were to do it again I would suggest they go to neighborhoods all over the world and ask who are those people in the area generally agreed to be wise. Not the famous, may or may not be greatly accomplished. Just quiet, private people leading wise lives and having a positive effect on the world around them. This is a GREAT picture book if you're a prince fan. If you're just an ordinary viewer, it's a learning experience full of neat info. about the man!

contrary to what is listed, The Americans is by Robert Frank, the photographer. the photos are timeless and i still use them to teach photography to college students jack kerouac only wrote the forward. set the record straight for non-photographers. thank you.

Anyone who likes traditional country music (or Marty Stuart) will enjoy this book. Lots of great photos of all the icons of the genre, as well as other historical items. Also includes a CD of Marty telling the story behind many of the photographs that personalizes it even more. Love it.

Richard Avedon was born in to a Jewish-Russian family in New York on May 15, 1944 He commenced his career as a photographer in 1942, taking identification pictures of the seamen. In 1946, Avedon established his own studio and producing material for a list of illustrious publications which includied Vogue magazine.
