I was very impressed by this book. The packaging is absolutely beautiful and the photos inside are artistic and pretty. They are certainly now 'raw', as many amateur concert photos of Prince are, and reflect Randee St. Nicholas' very polished style. Do they give any new information on Prince, his performances and his life? No. But, they sure are beautiful photographs. The poetry inside is a mix of previously-released song lyrics and short (unreleased) poems by Prince. Interesting to read. The live CD (Indigo Nights) is great. Again, it's not as raw as the bootlegs of these shows, and you can argue about the song selection, but any officially released live album by Prince is hard to come by. As in all of Scott Kelby's books; Scott again brings forward in a very humorous manner, the essentials of digital photography. Although Scott brings out his biases about cameras and techniques, one can use this book in any situation.

At first glance I was disappointed with this book because I opened it up and saw a bunch of pretty photos. I thought I had bought a picture book with no real value of teaching me how to take great photographs. Since I had it I decided to read it. I have learned so much! If you read the text and then read the description in the photos you can learn so much on fine tuning your photography. I consider myself a novice photographer who, admittedly, takes more photos of the family than anything else. Nonetheless, my pictures have improved immensely under the suggestions of Bryan Peterson. I've even gotten creative and tried nature shots. Don't underestimate this book like I suspect many have with a quick flip of the pages. It has excellent advice and is wonderful.

I bought this book because I considered it as a very informative and well explained book on the digital photography and I expected some explanations about the digital editing as well, but when I start reading the book, it disappointed me so much. The book is extremely for beginners and has very short contents (without any details), the 60% of the book is filled with photos, and the content is not enough for a person who has already an average knowledge about his own point-and-shoot camera, So I don't recommend it to all of you guys who already know a little about the digital camera functions like, aperture, shutter speed, focal length and flash etc,, believe me this book is not more than just telling u press this button and release that button.. not even explains you why should u do that?

This is great, consise guide to the photographer's photoshop needs. Doesn't include photoshop basics like layers, etc, but does show photos for each step making this great for all levels! And I don't know why people whine about Kelby's style, I'd rather have some humor in my technical guides than manual-speak with no personality.
