The first book in this trilogy was just OK. This one was a chore. I wish the final book was out so I could just read it to find out what happens and get the darn thing over with.

I, like many other avid Sanford readers found this book sorely lacking. It really did seemed forced. I was really looking forward to reading this book until the "weirdness" (I won't spoil it...) and the excessive use of unnecessary profanity and talking about females in such a vulgar way. I am no prude by any stretch, but it seemed Sanford was pushing boundries just to see if he could. If you are new to the "Prey" books I would NOT start with this one.

Having read all of this author's earlier books, I was very disappointed with this novel. Although the premise of the story has great merit, the shallow characters with predictable action and cliche dialogue, make this a very weary read. As suggested by several other reviewers, one definitely gets the impression that there was a deadline and the adaptation of a standard character and plot development that seems to be increasingly common amongst what initially was a good pool of writers, i.e. Jack Higgins, James Patterson, Daniel Silva - just to name a few. I will probably hold off on reading future books by this author.

Finally, a nice, cozy, suspenseful little read, just what I want to expect from George. A historical tour of a tiny (fictional, I assume) Cornwall town and an introduction to its culture and geography (who would have known Cornwall was such a surfing hub? Not I.) Lots of people with lots of secrets. Lynley and Havers are back, finally. I missed them like I miss irritating but somehow comforting relatives. You're glad to see them come and you're glad to see them go. Who in the world killed Santo Kerne? He was such a fine lad...well, OK, he wasn't, but he didn't seem like the murder victim type. Even Helen returns in a way, in the form of bittersweet memories.

I love the Andrew McAll Smith books, both about Africa and about Scotland, but the African books are so special to me. There are very few books that I read over and over again, but rereading one of Smith's books is so refresing, so inspiring, so up lifting. To take simple life experiences and misunderstandings to a whole new level of understanding of human nature to an touching level of humanity is just incredible. I missed McAll-Smith when he was here a Pacific Luther University, but my heart was with him and Ruranda. Would that it would be like how he writes about it. You don't need a review of the story or to have read his previous books, just enjoy whats on the page and let the climate an attitudes wash over you to take you to a place that you wished you might visit and embrace.

I allowed myself to 'believe' and loved this delightful little love story. I love a good, feel good, quick read every now and then and this definitely hit the spot.
