Odian offers a comprehensive guide to polymer chemistry, covering nearly all the types of polymerization, exploring radical, ionic, step, and copolymerization mechanisms and kinetics in sufficient detail. Some recent advances in polymer synthesis are not covered, but book offers enough knowledge to have a good grasp of all aspects of polymerizations. A must read for anyone considering a career or education in polymer synthesis!

The book is an excellent introduction to statistical polymer physics.
Its great strength is that it offers a mathematical treatment of polymer
physics with a minimum of mathematics i.e. only dimensional analysis and simple
ordinary differential equations. In addition, one needs to have an introductory
course in equilibrium statistical physics (statistical thermodynamics).

It is valuable to both academics and industrial practitioners, since it represents
a very complete picture of polymeric solutions, gels and networks
given with remarkable intuition. Certainly it does not go deep into
more advanced analytic (e.g. functional integral or numerical approaches),
but it is a necessary background to these fields.

This is a good Polymer Chemistry Textbook. It is very informative. However, it isn't the most exciting read. The book is completely black and white, making it hard to read for extended periods of time. I would recommend this textbook for the quality of it's information.

Books : The Physics of Polymers: Concepts for Understanding Their Structures and Behavior
This is a comprehensive polymer physics book, each chapter is well written with adequate depth of coverage. Most definitely the book one must pick to delve into dynamics, thermodynamics, scattering and crystallization, and get to the level of appreciating the complexity and beauty of current research and understanding in the field of polymer physics. Highly recommended!

Books : The Theory of Polymer Dynamics (Monographs on Physics)
Excellent book: but to grasp everything one will need to read through a few simpler texts first, say Scaling Concepts by de Gennes, Introduction to Polymer Physics by Doi, some Rheology book say Viscoelastic properties of Polymers by Ferry and Polymer Solutions by I Teraoka.

7.Polymers: Chemistry and Physics of Modern Materials by: J.M.G. Cowie

Books : Polymers: Chemistry and Physics of Modern Materials
Good introduction. Covers chemistry of polymerization (step growth, free radical, ionic). Amorphous, semi-crystalline and elastomeric polymers. Covers mechanical properties in terms of viscoelastic behaviour. This book could be very useful to non-chemists requiring a brief readable introduction to, or overview of, polymer chemistry. Does not assume high level of prior knowledge in chemistry or calculus. Does also not provide much specific physical or mechanical data of commercial polymers.

Books : Polymer Chemistry: The Basic Concepts
As I have said in my title, this is an excellent book for introductory physical polymer science. Not that good for organic/synthetic polymer science.

Books : Nucleic Acids in Chemistry and Biology
As the title indicates, the book has broad coverage of many facets of nucleic acids. It serves well as a textbook by introducing basic materials in a larger scope other than in depth. Some critics may address the issue that there are not enough details in some chapters, for example, Chapter 11, where physical methods are summarized. It can be argued, however, that its role as a textbook does not allow or need such details. The references should fill the gap given the fact that the students should have chemistry and biology background and be able to read further references.

The glossary at the beginning is well organized for students to adopt the terminology. The subject index gives enough details for easy searching. The contents are rich in information. The references are very much ... Read More
