I took this book on a trip and read it in one go. It is very well researched, well written, easy to read and it explores a fresh and tantalizing new view - which I totally support - about the roots of the great civilizations. I was so impressed that I decided to get all his other books right away.

Books : The Balance Within: The Science Connecting Health and Emotions
I took Biology and Chemistry in college and although I am not a health professional it is very interesting to have learned the general approach our physiology follows when faced with stress and emotions. The first 65 pages of the book describe the physiology of the brain and then some very interesting hypothesis is concluded. One among which is an elaborate description of test animals that revealed a link between stress and inflammatory diseases, arthritis being one of them. You should read this book because I'm not going to tell you how it concludes. What would be the point?

What I loved about the book is that it's written to adults and it's written very well. The author really knows how to put things in order. When dealing with such a complicated system as the human nervous system this ... Read More

This is an account of human existence up to about 20,000 years ago. It's meant for someone with a fairly serious interest in the subject, maybe doing a college course. There are many passages such as "The specimens include a lower jaw from Chenjiawo and a skull from Gongwangling, both in Lantian County; a partial skull and a fragmentary mandible from Lontangdong Cave in Hexian County; a fragmentary skullcap from a fissure deposit on Quizianshang Hill in Yiyuan County, two badly crushed partial skulls from a river deposit at Quayuangkekou in Yungxian County and ...."
Of course a lot of us have a serious interest, because human evolution is a hot topic. Hypothetical prehistories abound with evolutionary psychologists having their own set of ideas about what prehistoric life was like, and feminists such ... Read More

So it's hard for you to imagine an advanced society of White people in ancient times??? Hasn't there always been an advanced society of White people since, I don't know, RECORDED HISTORY??? Sure we had our Dark Ages when the Satanic State-Churchs kept us in ignorance.

So what if the whole book is true???

What if it was white people that spread across the globe with an advanced civilization?

Then maybe we might see the native tales of white bearded masters as a sign of EVIDENCE NOT PROPAGANDA

Archaeology is not my field, but from the first page on, that did not seem to matter. Rosemary Joyce writes with both scholarly depth and engaging accessibility; I could hardly put the book down.

I especially appreciated her nuanced navigation of the field of gender studies, which sometimes can be more political than scholarly. That was not at all the case in Ancient Bodies, Ancient Lives. Joyce did what the best authors do: inspire me to read more in her field(s) -- and more of her work.

The quality of the book's material and type are very good. There are a great many references to illustrations, maps, pictures, etc. The book I have has no illustrations. If I had known, I would have purchased a book with illustrations.

was not pleased with the book. the tounge in cheek references of eating eating human flesh and more traditional fare caused me to drop the book after a couple of dozen pages. It could certainly get better furtherr into it (I hope so), but I lost interest in a hurry.
