Loved it! Has all of my favorite things, ghosts, plantation, voodoo, mystery and romance. Didn't want to put it down. Can't wait to read next two in series.

A very entertaining and imaginative horror novel with some great twists in the story and some good suspense. By about 300 pages in though, the novel becomes overtly Christian and starts to preach, a lot. Without the cringe iducing final 50 or so pages I would have given this 5 stars. It gets 4 because it was excellent up until then.

This book has everything - an intriguing story line involving missing diamonds from the Civil War, ghosts (good AND bad), location (historic Charleston), a hero with a secret, a bad guy with his own secret, Melanie Middleton who has a long way to go for the peaceful well-ordered life she wants and the house on Tradd Street which brings them all together. A great mystery, a love story and a ghost story make for an enjoyable read. The 2nd book in this series will be out in November, 2009.

This is a book I return to again and again. Jackson's subtle characters are what make the story work so well. We yearn to make Nell happy and whole, see her revel in friendships and maybe her first long-overdue love affair, but know it's doomed from the start. The evil of the house, the downright creepiness of the voices Nell hears, the shapes in the grass, the writing, the blood, the weirdness of the picnic scene and the terror of escaping it, are chillingly described. It may seem strange but I think Jackson's sense of humor is a lot of why the story works so well. An adored classic.

This is a great book to start with,if you are interested in researching haunted places.Most of the supernatural locales are from within the USA ,some from Canada ,the UK,Australia,and Europe.The book is over 350 pages long.Many list websites ,for further reading information.I felt that this encyclopedia on paranormal places offered a wealth of ghostly facts and haunted histories.It's more about spirited American dwellings,rather than other global haunts though.If you're fascinated by tales of strange energy forces,passing light orbs,and visiting poltergeists ; then read this informative book and make it a trusted reference on postmortem encounters.

I have to tell you that if you are looking for a book with spooky stories and hair raizing tales, then do not get this book. Troy Taylor is a good author and does a great job with this book; however, it is an instructional manual for the most part. I have mine dog-eared, underlined, written in and I am about to add tabs. You will want to have it handy if you go looking for the things that go bump in the night. A really good book.

What a great idea putting some of the most famous and not so famous ghost pictures in a book and telling about the origin of them. I really enjoyed seeing the pictures and finding out where they came from. It was very interesting and I think the author did a find job of telling the story behind them without adding to it.

I'm a sucker for good horror stories and "Hell House" really hit the spot. It is truly one of the most entertaining and fun horror novels I have ever read. It is a book that knows what it is; "Hell House" does not take itself too seriously and stays on task. Its simple, direct and reads quickly and easily. Four people are sent on an expedition to explore Balasco House, which has been called "the Mount Everest of haunted houses". The notorious terror that has taken place within its walls has offered the house a more appropriate name: Hell House. It didn't take long for me to get goose bumps while reading this book. Richard Matheson so effectively built up the atmosphere and tension in Belasco House that it only took a rocking chair seemingly rocking by itself to seriously creep me out. Read More

Yep. Chapter 7. I'm the Anglican Priest in that story. And it's true, too. Jeff really listened to me when we did the interview He wrote a wonderful book. All the stories are wonderfully told and such variety! Well done. A good read!

As with all of Kay Hoopers reads, I found this one to be an intriguing story, touched by a precious romance. Marc helps Josie unravel the mystery of visiting ghost, 'Luke' ... and all he represents. I am never disappointed with this author, and neither will you be.
