This book was in perfect condition when I received it and the really cool thing about it is that its WATERPROOF which means you can read it pretty much anywhere-in the shower, underwater, at the beach or even in a fish tank! The book gives you scary insight on how we are destroying our earth and killing ourselves slowly and simultaneously!!!

This book delves into the kind of information that could help us avoid making the same mistakes over and over. If it can help create awareness of how susceptible the public is to being flim-flammed by the Oil Industry experts and its sycophants imbedded throughout the government and media we could clean this mess up. The book shows that it was the oil interests who politicized energy not the author of this book.

Contrary to the specious complaints of some, this book doesn't pretend to be a "How To" book on making alcohol out of fruit... which is plain from a quick look at the table of contents. Try a brewers store. Besides it is illegal to make alcohol in any useful quantities without an expensive license...ever heard of the ATF? ...good grief

Dr. Spencer lays out his objectives for the book in the introduction which primarily is to provide climate information to climate lay people (which is most everyone on the planet).

I found this book to be very informative regarding the atmosphere, basic weather (energy, wind, currents, temperature, etc.), theories of global warming, government policy creation, and overall just how much is unknown about warming, weather, and climate change.

He also provides information on his experience working for the government and his experience with environmentalists (including Al Gore) and alarmists.

As a bonus Dr. Spencer has a chapter on basic economics (related to policy creation) that should be required reading for all.

I would recommend this book. ... Read More

This may very well be one of the most important books I have read this year ... or the past few years.

I purchased "Last Child in the Woods" right after I heard Richard Louv interviewed on a local radio program. I was so moved by his message and impressed with the breadth of his knowledge and depth of experience. And it all translates well in the book.

"Last Child..." feels more like a conversation a text. It's just that comfortable and open. Yet it very strikingly paints a picture of what is currently happening to children and our world as well as what may yet happen if nothing is done to reverse "nature deficit disorder". But, more importantly, there are also bright examples of hope and suggestions as to what we can do, as individuals and in larger groups, to cultivate ... Read More

I have to say that the reviewers comments below is not one that is Accurate or Fair. This book is in no way selling or recommending any product(s)!

I've read this book and given copies to friends and family. The book is filled with facts about green smoothies that is absolutely incredible.
Victoria has poured lots of research into presenting a great testament to the benefits of green smoothies.

While most of these smoothies are made from kale, spinach, dandelion, or chard, they are incredibly delicious. The results of drinking these smoothies, can be seen and felt. Victoria clearly does not claim to be anything other than a researcher. But to her credit she has taken her family to new health heights and offers readers the same opportunity.

Having just attended ... Read More

I would give this book zero stars if I could. I am so surprised this book has such high ratings. First, the author can not stop himself from talking down to his readers, and making himself appear as he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Half the book is about how great he is and how "Everybody Else" is stupid and worthless. This is the most negative book on gardening I have ever read. I do not recommend this book at all.

When I asked my Grandparents about the dust bowl, they would not say much at all about it - other than they had some crop failures - once I read this book, I realized how horrible a time it really was and that my Grandparents just wanted to move on with their lives and not think about those "Dark" times. This book tells what it was like from the perspective of many people who lived through the dust bowl - from the joyous beginnings to the tragic end. The scope of the dust bowl was incredible and the effect it had on people was heart wrenching. The author even discusses how the dust bowl affected different cultural groups, such as the Germans from Russia immigrants who were discriminated against during both world wars. Once you read this book, you will have a better understanding of the region, what happened during ... Read More

In this beautifully written book Charles C. Mann recollects his journey to old tribal communties in what is now America. This book holds many facts that are amazing and your idea of what the US was like before Columbus will change drastically. Charles Mann tells lost stories of lies and betrayal between the Indians and the early explorers who landed on the coast of America. Many assumptions about what the Indians were like are completely contradicted in this book, although bold at time all of the facts are true and seem to line up perfectly. Although lacking cities of gold the Americas did have sophisticated technology in some tribes, even more ahead than their un familiar rivals in Europe. Early interactions between the first people to land on the United States are extordanary and just imagine how complicated it was with ... Read More

Though this book has some great tips and is fairly easy to read, it could have been summed up in maybe half the pages the author actually used (saving many trees, of course). I found many of her tips to be a bit silly, and her lack of descriptive vocabulary (must everything be "simply to die for" and/or "gorgeous"?) boring. The list of fashion vendors provided in Chapter 4 seems more like shameless free advertising. Some of the vendors no longer exist, and many are quite expensive. Save your money and check out websites or the local library for more up-to-date advice, or start a green group to discuss alternatives to eco-friendly living instead.
