I haven't read all of Nicholas Spark's novels but this has to be one of the better ones!! I read it on a peaceful afternoon with the autumn leaves (I hate to say it) drifting by the window. The book fit right in.

The idea of a photograph affecting so many lives has been long in coming. I don't remember another story like it.

Logan is a survivor of 3 tours in Iraq who feels that this photo that he found there brought him through. He is obsessed with the picture of the girl standing by the ferris wheel and sets out to find her.

Elizabeth is a teacher with a young son and an aging grandmother who runs a kennel. Keith is her ex-husband who has managed so far to discourage anyone who seems interested in his ex-wife. Ben is their son who is too gentle to ... Read More

Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio in Oak Park is on a spacious street that boasts several of his houses, two blocks from where I grew up. That street never loses its charm, though I've walked down it many times. Next door to my family lived a Frank Lloyd Wright impersonator/ expert who would don his black cape and wide-brimmed hat to give talks at some library or historical society. "There goes Frank Lloyd Wright," we would say whenever we saw Mr.Shepherd.
Now I regret that I never took advantage of the opportunity to learn about FLW from my neighbor's lectures, because due to this book, Loving Frank, I have become fascinated. Why was I never curious before? Evidence of his genius is all around Oak Park, and geniuses are often obsessive and tempermental and fascinating, aren't ... Read More

This is a wonderful story told by a wise narrator, who looks back over the years to his first love, the tragedy that followed, and the purpose that he discovered for his life. I had not read any of Evans' novels before, and after reading a short summary, I was afraid that this would be overly sentimental and saccharine. My fears were groundless. The story is believable, realistic, and well told. There is nothing pretentious or preachy here, just a heartfelt expression of the author's faith. The sadness and tragedy are not nuanced or downplayed. I cried several times in this book. It is a sad story, and the ending is very uplifting, but it does not bring a relief of sadness. I found it to be very realistic.

The writer brings the worldview of a 14 year old boy clearly into focus. He shows ... Read More

This is an excellent, well researched book. The author obviously has a lot of empathy with the animals. Descriptions of life on the circus train seemed genuine. The ending that involved the elephant was a real surprise. One criticisim I have is that all of Sara Gruen's books have happy endings. I guess I'm just a Jude The Obscure kind of guy.

THis book was a fitting end to her series, but I feel as if I knew the characters so well I hate to say goodbye. All of Ms Kingsbury books are wonderful and well written. The truths learned within her books stay with me and give me insight into the scriptures that I may have not noticed before. Karen Kingsbury is faithful in her life and writings - a true Christian witness.

Without reviewing the plot (which others have done well already)or trying to spoil too much I'll try to explain why I was so disappointed with this book. First, I've read Tanner's Scheme and Dawn's Awakening so I expected steamy sex scenes but in my opionion this one crossed over the line. In one important scene the hero is accused of attempting to rape someone because it was caught on video camera. When discussing this the hero gave an impassioned denial that "no means no", etc. but when you go back and reread the scene, the heroin did say no - directly and expressed her concern in other ways! Also, although it was clear that the heroin was excited by what happened I just couldn't understand how she could be so angry that security personnel witnessing the scene would intervene and attempt to help her. Lastly, there ... Read More

Fans of Debbie Macomber have found her Christmas novels to be nothing short of a delightfully necessary part of Yuletide cheer. A Cedar Cove Christmas will exceed these expectations!

Mary Joe Wyse has previously believed everything David Rhodes said but is now having intense doubts that don't bode well for the future, especially a future with a soon-to-be-born baby he fathered. Mary's brothers, Linc, Mel and Ned have blown it as well, with their overbearing, albeit loving, intentions. They're threatening to find David and give him a message to treat their sister honorably and perhaps give David a sound thrashing as well, not necessarily in that order. Mary decides to beat them to the punch and find David herself to discover whether she has his support or not, not a hopeful sign at all based on his former ... Read More

No summary, just why I didn't like it.

I have read everything that has been published by Julia Quinn to date, many of which are on my shelf keepers list but this book is not even close to those in caliber. Perhaps if The Lost Duke of Wyndham (Two Dukes of Wyndham, Book 1) and Mr. Cavendish, I Presume (Two Dukes of Wyndham, Book 2) were written as one book, maybe as a 600page hardback, I would have enjoyed it. But this side by side story line style of having both books take place at the same time bored me to tears. Here's why-

You know whats going to happen. Even if you didn't read the first book its obvious by the title who the real duke is. Just too much repetition though most of the book focuses on the events that happened between Amelia and Thomas while they were off-stage during Two Dukes ... Read More
